IB Higher Level Biology and Chemistry. GCSE Level Biology and Chemistry.

I can provide tutoring for IB HL or GCSE level Biology and Chemistry. This will involve going through exam technique as well as explanation of tricky topics. Revision techniques will also be provided. This will include which topics are most essential, personalised guidance to study techniques which work for you and general advice.

The teaching will be catered to how you learn and what you find most difficult. Each lesson we will focus on one area and then build upon that in future lessons. This method allows for layering of knowledge and skill causing steady improvement which is solid. These skills of memorisation, exam technique and essay writing within the sciences are not only useful for your exams, but are essential skills for anyone hoping to pursue a career in science/research.

About Me

Hello there! My name is Sophie and I’m a medical student. I am super passionate about learning and I’m very flexible to adapt to your learning needs! I did the IB and GCSEs back in school so that’s what I’m best at teaching. I really have a passion for teaching and like to think of myself as a flexible tutor who will work with you on an individual level to help you achieve your best!

The technique I find most useful to help people is to break things down to a simple level and then layer up knowledge. Once you have the basics down, you'll find more advanced themes much easier!

Education

I have 10 GCSEs all A to A* (or number equivalent = 9). I received 44 points in the International Baccalaureate back in 2019. I now attend the University of Exeter as a first year Medical Student.

Experience / Qualifications

I have previous tutoring experience from working at school with younger students. These have mostly been from the ages of 14-18.

Reviews (1)

Very good! The session was adjusted to the needs of the student and it was easy to ask questions. Very well structured and goal oriented. Super good at explaining tings in depth but also outlining. I got loads of useful revision and exam tips. She definitely knows the curriculum well. Very kind and passionate as well.
History Higher Level can be an extremely challenging class, not only incorporating the skill of essay writing but also that of memorising swathes of facts. As a recent graduate of the IB Diploma who achieved a 7 in History HL, I know exactly what it takes to achieve the top grades. I have designed my course to gradually build upon essay structure, planning and writing as skills. We will begin by identifying weak points in your own technique and then tailor the course to what suits your needs. I will help you to be able to be prepared for a myriad of different exam topics which may show up and provide you with exam techniques which are essential for reaching the higher grades. I will assign homework for some lessons to track your progress.
History in the International Baccalaureate can be an incredibly demanding subject. It requires not only extensive knowledge of historical events, but also skilful strategy and excellent essay writing adeptness. I have designed my sessions to incorporate all three of these aspects by basing the teaching around your work and improvement. This allows me to personalise the lesson to work on the areas which are most helpful for you. I will teach you about essay writing specifically for the IB - the structure which gained me a level 7 in IB HL History when I graduated two years ago. I can also teach efficient revision techniques to retain not only the largest amount of education, but also the most important information.

Chemistry for High School and University exams (English)
This class will help my students (from high school to university level) to understand and face one of the most studied discipline in science: chemistry. I have been worked with tens of students, in Italian and in English, helping them for university exams and for high school tests. The class is structured depending on the students needs, with both theoretical and practical (exercises) study. Typical topics in general chemistry are: pH, titrations, redox, stochiometry, electrochemistry. But there is much more. Together we can have fun with chemistry!

Waleed PhD
Pre-Course Consultaion / Biochemistry / Molecular Biology.
The goal of this lesson is to understand the student's needs and agree about the time schedule and topics. Be ready with the syllabus and required hours and desired schedule.

Excellence Math, Physics, Chemistry - College, High School - 19 average
Give your child the future he deserves. Double-degree from Arts et Métiers ParisTech and Centralesupelec / Scientific Baccalaureat with Very Good / 20/20 in mathematics / MPSI / MP preparatory class * / 5 years of tutoring experience / more than 30 regular students + volunteer in associations of homework help for pupils in great difficulty Do you want to significantly increase your child's mathematical average? Do you want it to integrate a selective course? Do you want it to become autonomous? For 5 years, I have helped more than 30 French students in difficulty from middle school (sixth, fifth, fourth, third) and high school (second, first, final) to achieve their goals (good average, patent, bac, PREPA) and to regain self-confidence. My method in 3 points: - in the short term, significantly increase the average by assimilating the course and preparing for the next tests (assimilating the course, writing files, practicing standard exercises, anticipating the teacher's expectations and test questions, having methods of writing) - in the medium term, integrate reasoning and work methods (learn to work regularly in this order: assimilation, training exercise, preparation for the test and analysis of the pass test) - in the long term, set a goal, build the steps to reach this goal, become aware of the SIMPLICITY of math, have confidence in your abilities, release your potential) The formula: a course of 1h30 / 2h * per week for the assimilation of the current chapter + a course before the test * I recommend two courses for those brought up in preparatory class # 1: The first class is a test class # 2: I come to your home # 3: Your child can contact me whenever they want If you want to increase your child's math results, contact me before the next test!

IB/American Curriculum Math, Physics, Chemistry and Biology Lectures for College, Secondary & Middle School Students
I have been teaching private courses in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and English for 9 years. It is my passion to prepare my students for the future with school and exam studies. When I had a chance to be a student in the Anatolian Teacher High School in Istanbul in 2008 and Boğaziçi University in 2012, my biggest goal was to be a reliable role model for my students in the future. I am very happy that I have now made this dream come true since the year I entered university. Until this time, I have taught private lessons at secondary, high school and university level to numerous students from Turkey and abroad. I still continue to give private lessons on the online platform and teach Physics at an International School in Istanbul where California Education Standards (Cognia) are adopted. It is my passion to prepare my students for the future with school and exam studies. I am currently teaching for SAT Exam Preparation. SAT Subject Tests includes Physics, Math, Chemistry and Biology. I can teach both IB and American Curriculum as well. I teach my lessons on Zoom, Microsoft Teams or Google Classroom, depending on the student' request. Inquiry Based Learning which I have adopted as a teaching method; it enables me to teach lessons based on inquiry and always keeping the student & teacher dialogue dynamic. I strive to progress depending on the age and level of the student. For this, I aim to explain myself, the way I study and understand my student's expectations and level. After the level has been determined, it is of great importance for me that the student knows the lesson plan and draft as well and adheres to the jointly agreed schedule. I share pdfs and documents that I have prepared before the class and use the books by Pearson, Serway, Nowicki, Sarquis and so on for University & Secondary School Level. For Middle School, I use HMH Science Modules etc. I do emphasize the importance on giving homework/assignment and return as giving ''feedforwards'' for my students. As someone in love with her job, it is my greatest motivation to direct the students to professions they can do with love. French, sciences, correction of end of cycle work
HEP graduate, I offer French lessons via webcam. I take into account your weaknesses and your strengths so that these courses remain a joy and a sharing. Having a thorough knowledge of the French teaching plan, I propose the study of various kinds of text (adventure, story, news item, fantastic, marvelous ...). To achieve this, we will review the orthographic, grammatical and lexical bases. On the other hand, I also teach science (up to 8P) I really like to correct the end of cycle work (certificate, matu, Hautes écoles ...)

Merlvyn
Chemistry (American Curriculum or Advanced Placement or Pre-IB or IB)
Educational Certificates and Awards Ministry of Education Teaching Scholarship (1998) Graduated from National University of Singapore, Bachelor of Science (2004) Graduated from Nanyang Technological University, Post-Graduate Diploma in Education (2005) College Board - AP Chemistry (2019) College Board - AP Calculus AB (2019) I have taught in an IBDP independent school for 5 years in Singapore, as well as in an American School offering APs for 5 years in Taiwan. I’m certified to teach in both courses. I was an EE supervisor while in the IBDP school for all 5 years. I was also a Chemistry Olympiad coach when I was at that school, as well as a pioneer teacher for an Accelerated Class for Science, which is a talent development program. Teaching was my first job and I love it. Interacting with students is the greatest joy besides helping them to learn and at the same time enjoy learning. I love Mathematical problems because they are like puzzles. Once I have the keys (concepts or relationships), I just have to figure out how to use them. It's almost like an escape room or jigsaw. Once I figure out how the pieces fit, there is the sense of satisfaction of solving it. Mathematics trains us in being resilient, systematic and logical thinkers and at times, our imagination and creativity. Science on the other hand, teaches us about ourselves and the world around us - how we interact with each other, how we interact with the world and how other objects or living things interact with each other. The joy of discovery keeps me going. It's always fun to discover something new. Of course, I love the experiments too. It never ceases to amaze students when they see how chemical reactions create something new, change in color, gases, light and heat, and how these can be useful in everyday life. It also teaches us to be respectful of natural laws and be good stewards of the earth and its resources. Available times: Summer break (June-July) - Weekday full days, weekends Sat (8am - 12pm, 5pm - 10pm) and Sunday (6pm-10pm). School days (Aug - May) - Weekdays (6:30pm - 10pm), weekends Sat (8am - 12pm, 5pm - 10pm) and Sunday (6pm-10pm).
