European History- private lessons in analysis, essay writing and exam prep

I have deeply enjoyed European History high school, where I received top marks, through university to the present, where I still read and learn history on a regular basis. I am familiar not only with the impact of wider trends such as the printing press, reformation, industrialization and colonization across history but also with the specific histories (and personalities that make them) of the UK, France, Germany, Russia and Spain.

Since learning the Annales approach to history I have been really keen about learning history from a wide variety of perspectives. In recent years, I have particularly tried to focus on history retold from the perspective of those left out of the traditional view, which is really just anyone who isn't a white, upper-class and male. This broader and more complex view of history leads to a more nuanced understanding of the past, particularly from a social perspective.

I have deeply enjoyed US History since high school, where I received top marks, through university to the present, where I still read and learn history on a regular basis. I am most familiar with mainland history from US Independence to the present day, however am always trying to improve my knowledge about Native American history, and the territories. I have also studied extensively the impact of the US on the wider world and it's relations with the global community. I believe it is important to teach history from a wide variety of perspectives. In recent years, I have particularly tried to focus on history retold from the perspective of those left out of the traditional view, which is really just anyone who isn't a white, upper-class, European male. This broader and more complex view of history leads to a more nuanced understanding of the past, particularly from a social perspective.
My basic premise is that anything you can say, you should be able to write. My strengths are in thematic reading of the text, literary techniques and essay writing. I usually work with the student to help them build a strong understanding of the text, and its wider historical and social content, before helping them to understand its themes and key ideas. From there I work with my students to strengthen their writing (factual or creative) and building of their own ideas on paper. I use a variety of exercises and mediums (film, poetry, novels, rap etc) to achieve this. As literature is an ever-evolving field, I feel learning is very much a two-way process, and try to use dialogue, discussion and contextual materials and examples to build the student's understanding. I really enjoy this field and try to bring my enthusiasm, knowledge and experience to every class I teach.
This class is aimed to provide guidance and help for anyone studying political science, government or international relations. I aim to structure all my lessons to broaden my student's worldview, challenge their assumptions and test the logic of their arguments. I am able to bring a unique synthesis of perspectives to all my lessons to help my students to use political science, government and IR theories to analysis current global issues. I also have a strong background in essay writing and logic which I use to help test and strengthen the theses of their essays. As this is an ever-evolving field, I feel learning is very much a two-way process, and try to use dialogue, discussion and contextual materials and examples to build the student's understanding. I really enjoy this field and try to bring my enthusiasm, knowledge and experience to every class I teach.
¡Hola! ¿Qué tal? I have been speaking Spanish for seven years and studied it as a minor in my Bachelor's degree. I have lived and volunteered in Spain and travel there regularly, aswell as read, speak and write in Spanish daily. Not only do I have a strong understanding of Spanish grammar and vocabulary and a deep love of the language but I also understand how to learn it, as it is my second of five languages. As I have done when teaching Spanish in the past, I'm able to understand the conceptual gaps and differences between the student's first language (particularly if it's Latin or Asian) and work with the student to jump over those hurdles towards greater comprehension. I use a communicative approach which focuses on building the student's fluency and confidence. Finally, I have a strong understanding of Spanish and Latin American culture and history, and so am able to use interesting and contextually relevant materials to keep lessons engaging and lively.
I have a broad background in NGO work, having worked and volunteered in our sector for ten years across seven countries, as well as a Masters in NGO Management and Social Enterprise from the University of Technology, Sydney, I combine this with ten years of experience as a private tutor. I aim to structure all my lessons to broaden my student's worldview, challenge their assumptions and test the logic of their arguments. I am able to bring a unique synthesis of perspectives to all my lessons to help my students to use NGO management theories to analysis current issues and trends in the sector.
I have deeply enjoyed history and historiography from high school, where I received top marks, through university, where we studied history from Australia, the Americas, Europe, Asia and the Middle East, to the present, where I still read and learn history on a regular basis. In recent years, I have particularly tried to focus on history retold from the perspective of those left out of the traditional view, which is really just anyone who isn't a white, upper-class, European male. This broader and more complex view of history leads to a more nuanced understanding of the past, particularly from a social perspective. I try to bring this knowledge to the classroom, to help the student understand history contextually and how it is shaped through an interplay of individual personalities and social, economic and political trends. I work to include as much primary evidence as possible and always encourage students to approach both primary and secondary sources critically, considering the bias and intention of the source. If I'm not familiar enough with the particular aspect of history the student is studying, I will do the necessary research to be able to help them competently. I really enjoy history and try to bring my enthusiasm, knowledge and experience to every class I teach.
I deeply enjoy Shakespeare and have been tutoring Shakespeare for eight years now. I did well in English in high school and have been tutoring English for several years, and Shakespeare has always been an integral part of that. I generally have two primary goals. Firstly, helping students to understand the language itself. If a student is new to Shakespeare or lacking confidence in English, the plays can seem intelligible. However, if you work through the text patiently with a student, and show them how it works with modern day English, their confidence generally grows and so does the accessibility of the text for them. This leads me to my second goal with the student, which is to help them understand the themes and value of the text, so they can see how it relates to their reality. Depending on the student’s engagement, objectives and learning style, this can be done a variety of ways such as using modern adaptations, videos or breaking it down line by line. I work to be flexibly and adapt my teaching to the student as much as possible, to ensure the most positive experience for them.

International Baccalaureate History (Standard Level, Higher Level, Grade 3 - DP2, IB)
I completed the IB DP with a consistent 7/ high 6 in Higher Level History, and this has always been one of my favorite subjects. I am very good at this subject and have somewhat of a passion for it. I have a very good grasp of what is expected from the IB students as pertains to this subject, and I know the ins and outs of the criteria and the weird and wonderful little ways in which the IB expects the students to perform. I am able to help with any course work, homework, assignments, or assessments. As pertains to the DP students, I also did my EE on a History topic so I can assist there if need be. I am also a tutor in English and as comprehensive writing and legibility is a large part of what is expected from IB History students, I can offer particular insight into how to best write and get arguments across.

Ask me about Jamaica! Are you curious to learn more about Jamaica- to go beyond Reggae and Jerk? Its history, people, politics and culture?
Ever wondered about life in Jamaica beyond the lights of Kingston’s allure? This class offers an ethnographic journey of practises and cultures in rural Jamaica, illustrated through photos, songs and videos. Let's explore life in rural Jamaica! Born and raised in a remote rural district/village, I will take you on an authentic journey of first hand experiences- reliving fond childhood memories, the stories my grandmother told me and what a typical day is like. This will be grounded in the history and culture of Jamaica. Coming from a background in diplomacy, sharing about Jamaica's culture and historical experiences has always been essential for opening the door to a deeper unerstanding. I have an avid interest in other cultures and always take the time to explore wherever I go. Having been to South and Central America, Asia, North America and Europe, I know the unique value of such rich experiences. Whenever I was home-sick while posted abroad, talking about my homeland was the only cure. I will share with you all there is about living in rural Jamaica, from different perspectives of my childhood, teenage years and adult life. One unique bit is that the district's enduring small farms form the centrepiece around which everything revolves. Come prepared with a curious mind, and if you want to make notes take your pen and paper or do so on your devices. It is important for me that your are learning, so I encourage you to ask questions. Let's go beyond Kington's enigma!

As a recent graduate of the IB Diploma who achieved a 7 in History HL, I know exactly what it takes to achieve the top grades. Tutoring in social subjects: history, English and Spanish.
Social subjects make it possible to gain insight into contemporary problems and make communication more efficient and more fun. It is therefore only natural that a certain basis is expected from everyone. If you have trouble with this, or want to go that extra mile, then I would love to help! I myself am a bachelor student in theoretical physics at the University of Maastricht, but I have a very large basis and interest in these subjects. I speak fluent Dutch and English, and my Spanish is also very good because I lived in Ecuador for a year. History is actually my main area of interest, more than physics too. I am therefore very well read in history, and more than that, I am someone who likes to explain the story and the flow in history. This makes tracking and understanding history a lot easier. If there are any questions, please let me know!
