World History- private lessons in analysis, essay writing and exam prep

I have deeply enjoyed history and historiography from high school, where I received top marks, through university, where we studied history from Australia, the Americas, Europe, Asia and the Middle East, to the present, where I still read and learn history on a regular basis. In recent years, I have particularly tried to focus on history retold from the perspective of those left out of the traditional view, which is really just anyone who isn't a white, upper-class, European male. This broader and more complex view of history leads to a more nuanced understanding of the past, particularly from a social perspective.

I try to bring this knowledge to the classroom, to help the student understand history contextually and how it is shaped through an interplay of individual personalities and social, economic and political trends. I work to include as much primary evidence as possible and always encourage students to approach both primary and secondary sources critically, considering the bias and intention of the source. If I'm not familiar enough with the particular aspect of history the student is studying, I will do the necessary research to be able to help them competently. I really enjoy history and try to bring my enthusiasm, knowledge and experience to every class I teach.

    About Me

My name is Jaye and I have been a private tutor for seven years, teaching over 100 students in Australia, the UK, India, Spain, Thailand, China and Turkey. In particular I have experience in exam preparation and essay writing. I have also worked and volunteered in the humanitarian sector for 10 years, focusing primarily on refugee and asylum seeker issues and education. I speak Spanish, advanced French and Portuguese and basic Turkish. In my spare time I love reading and salsa dancing.

    Education

Bachelors in International and Global Studies from USYD (majoring in government and Spanish)
Masters in NGO Management and Social Enterprise from UTS (distinction average)

    Experience / Qualifications

    7 years tutoring experience
10 years experience humanitarian sector (UN, Red Cross and Salvation Army)
    120 hour TEFL certificate
My basic premise is that anything you can say, you should be able to write. My strengths are in thematic reading of the text, literary techniques and essay writing. I usually work with the student to help them build a strong understanding of the text, and its wider historical and social content, before helping them to understand its themes and key ideas. From there I work with my students to strengthen their writing (factual or creative) and building of their own ideas on paper. I use a variety of exercises and mediums (film, poetry, novels, rap etc) to achieve this. As writing is an ever-evolving field, I feel learning is very much a two-way process, and try to use dialogue, discussion and contextual materials and examples to build the student's understanding. I really enjoy this field and try to bring my enthusiasm, knowledge and experience to every class I teach.
¡Hola! ¿Qué tal? I have been speaking Spanish for seven years and studied it as a minor in my Bachelor's degree. I have lived and volunteered in Spain and travel there regularly, aswell as read, speak and write in Spanish daily. Not only do I have a strong understanding of Spanish grammar and vocabulary and a deep love of the language but I also understand how to learn it, as it is my second of five languages. As I have done when teaching Spanish in the past, I'm able to understand the conceptual gaps and differences between the student's first language (particularly if it's Latin or Asian) and work with the student to jump over those hurdles towards greater comprehension. I use a communicative approach which focuses on building the student's fluency and confidence. Finally, I have a strong understanding of Spanish and Latin American culture and history, and so am able to use interesting and contextually relevant materials to keep lessons engaging and lively.
Hi! I would really love to help you improve your confidence and fluency in English. I'm an Australian currently living in Turkey and I specialise in IELTS and TOEFL preparation, conversational English and essay writing. I graduated from the University of Sydney with a distinction average and am currently learning my fifth language, so I understand how to learn a new language. My teaching style is fun, interesting and personalised to your learning style. Please get in touch to organise a lesson!

I have deeply enjoyed European History high school, where I received top marks, through university to the present, where I still read and learn history on a regular basis. I am familiar not only with the impact of wider trends such as the printing press, reformation, industrialization and colonization across history but also with the specific histories (and personalities that make them) of the UK, France, Germany, Russia and Spain. Since learning the Annales approach to history I have been really keen about learning history from a wide variety of perspectives. In recent years, I have particularly tried to focus on history retold from the perspective of those left out of the traditional view, which is really just anyone who isn't a white, upper-class and male. This broader and more complex view of history leads to a more nuanced understanding of the past, particularly from a social perspective.
I have deeply enjoyed US History since high school, where I received top marks, through university to the present, where I still read and learn history on a regular basis. I am most familiar with mainland history from US Independence to the present day, however am always trying to improve my knowledge about Native American history, and the territories. I have also studied extensively the impact of the US on the wider world and it's relations with the global community. I believe it is important to teach history from a wide variety of perspectives. I have deeply enjoyed Australian History since high school, where I received top marks, through university to the present, where I still read and learn history on a regular basis. I am most familiar with Australian history from European arrival, through Federation and the conflicts of the 21st century, through to present day. However am always trying to improve my knowledge of Indigenous history. I have also studied extensively Australia's global relationships over time, with countries such as the UK, the US and China. I deeply enjoy Shakespeare and have been tutoring Shakespeare for eight years now. I did well in English in high school and have been tutoring English for several years, and Shakespeare has always been an integral part of that. I generally have two primary goals. Firstly, helping students to understand the language itself. If a student is new to Shakespeare or lacking confidence in English, the plays can seem intelligible. However, if you work through the text patiently with a student, and show them how it works with modern day English, their confidence generally grows and so does the accessibility of the text for them. This leads me to my second goal with the student, which is to help them understand the themes and value of the text, so they can see how it relates to their reality. Depending on the student’s engagement, objectives and learning style, this can be done a variety of ways such as using modern adaptations, videos or breaking it down line by line. I work to be flexibly and adapt my teaching to the student as much as possible, to ensure the most positive experience for them.
This class is aimed to provide guidance and help for anyone studying political science, government or international relations. I aim to structure all my lessons to broaden my student's worldview, challenge their assumptions and test the logic of their arguments. I am able to bring a unique synthesis of perspectives to all my lessons to help my students to use political science, government and IR theories to analysis current global issues. I also have a strong background in essay writing and logic which I use to help test and strengthen the theses of their essays. As this is an ever-evolving field, I feel learning is very much a two-way process, and try to use dialogue, discussion and contextual materials and examples to build the student's understanding. I really enjoy this field and try to bring my enthusiasm, knowledge and experience to every class I teach.

During our lessons, I'll help you develop your skills (oral/written, and not only). I'll also try to help you improve your pronunciation and understand those complex noun cases and verbs. I assign homework and after I receive it, correct it thoroughly additionally providing a lot of remarks/examples if they are necessary. I worked at a language center between 2009-2016 where I was a director of studies and taught mainly English as a foreign/second language. Since 2005, when I first started teaching Polish, I have taught children and adults on a variety of language proficiency levels and with a variety of needs, mainly individually. I constantly seek progress, meaning that I study further through reading books/articles concerning didactics/methodology and learning difficulties (chiefly dyslexia), observing other teachers as well as attending seminars (online or face-to-face). During my lessons I use : - Skype/Whatsapp/Messenger to connect with you, - Google Docs to keep notes, which you can check at any time and they are yours to keep, - sketch board me to make mind maps to show connections between ideas, etc. - books, PPP, word docs, diagrams, pics, etc. - pronunciation/spelling/grammar games, - authentic materials were taken from websites. I adore my profession and desire each and every one of my students be satisfied with the lesson. That's why I make sure the atmosphere is stress-free and nice. I also want my lessons to be as effective and close to real-life needs as possible. Therefore, I make sure they are well-prepared, although they can be altered at any point, should such an opportunity arise. I like explaining things in a variety of ways as well as make use of dictionaries, diagrams, etc. When it comes to students who want to obtain certificates, I am very demanding. What can I teach? - I would love to help you improve/develop all language skills (speaking/writing-listening/reading + grammar/vocabulary/pronunciation), - I can prepare you for state certificates such as A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2, - I would love to help you with homework and assignments (literature, history) from school and university (but please contact me about that IN ADVANCE).

Need History and English courses? See both? Call me!
Whether in your studies or your life, the key thing is to have a critical mind. To know how to analyze information and to link it to your knowledge is the Latin and etymological essence of the term "intelligence". This is the goal of any good teacher, to help you evolve in the "right" way. Thus, I will strive to help you acquire a working method, especially in History, which requires a lot of knowledge. But also, in English. Indeed, does it tempt you to think English and not know English? Being "polyglot", I master several foreign languages, but the one I know best, English, I can also teach you. And finally, if you wish, why not combine the two? Namely, you provide courses in History in English, or English in History;)
