About Me

Hello, everyone; My name is Jasmin; I am a Celta, Young Learners certified ESL teacher from Italy.

I live with my four cats and my dog Suga in a small cozy village in the countryside around the city of Florence.

I love everything that has to do with art and nature.

My favorite season is winter because of Christmas and because I love walking my dog in the snow and snowboarding.

My other interests include traveling and reading detective and fantasy books. I am also a great admirer of Sir JRR Tolkien and his works.

I've always enjoyed imagining fictional locations and characters for my fictional worlds, and it's still one of my students' favorite things about me.

I don't believe in lectures as a way of teaching; Instead, I enjoy letting students learn through curiosity and evoking those concepts that will further enhance their growing knowledge of the English language.

Stories, games and fantasy characters are the most effective ways for me to help them achieve their goals. Don't worry; I can be strict and serious when the situation calls for it, but I generally never get to that point, except on rare occasions.

Shortly after high school, where I studied English, German and Spanish for five years, I began tutoring students face-to-face.

As part of my family is British, I spent most of my childhood and teenage years in the UK attending summer language courses which slowly but steadily helped me to achieve near-native English with a neutral accent.

I worked as a chairside assistant in the family dental clinic for eight years and was able to learn how to behave around children as my work consisted mainly of helping little patients.

I have always been fascinated by languages and learning these languages has allowed me to broaden my education and gain a deeper understanding of different cultures.

I'm a cheerful and optimistic person who makes friends easily with people.

I met two of my best friends while trying to learn Russian and Korean on an online exchange platform. I ended up teaching them English and Italian while they helped me with their native languages.

During my Celta journey, one of my tutors suggested that I make a suitable teacher for children. Therefore, after completing my course, I decided to attend a special course for young learners.

At that time I was already working as an online ESL teacher at my current school in Ukraine.

This study experience with IH has helped me learn how to teach children and teenagers more effectively.

I always create a safe and comfortable atmosphere for my students during my classes.

Instead of assessing their level directly using worksheets or assessment tools, I prefer to have a relaxed conversation. This does the job and works for all ages and levels.

I generally start my classes with a quick warm up, followed by a review of homework and a review of what we covered in the previous sessions.

I then present the lesson topic and the target language in a context that the student can identify with.

Because everyone learns differently, I tailor my lesson plans to the age, level, needs, and personality of the learner.

Engaging them with topics that interest them and spark their curiosity is my way of ensuring the learning process continues outside of the classroom.

Education

In 2001 I completed my five-year Diploma in Foreign Languages with degrees in English, German and Spanish Language and Literature.
From the age of 14 to 18 I also attended summer English courses which led me to reach an advanced level in the English language
