International Baccalaureate History (Standard Level, Higher Level, Grade 3 - DP2, IB)

I completed the IB DP with a consistent 7/ high 6 in Higher Level History, and this has always been one of my favorite subjects. I am very good at this subject and have somewhat of a passion for it. I have a very good grasp of what is expected from the IB students as pertains to this subject, and I know the ins and outs of the criteria and the weird and wonderful little ways in which the IB expects the students to perform. I am able to help with any course work, homework, assignments, or assessments. As pertains to the DP students, I also did my EE on a History topic so I can assist there if need be. I am also a tutor in English and as comprehensive writing and legibility is a large part of what is expected from IB History students, I can offer particular insight into how to best write and get arguments across.

About Me

Hi! :) I'm Elme. I'm South African, and I grew up all over Africa. I've lived in Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, and finally the Netherlands for the past 5 years. I've traveled all over the world so chances are I've spent some time in your home country! As for tutoring, when I was a student in the IB I was in need of a tutor for math, and I tried out multiple different ones before I found what worked for me. Due to this, I have some invaluable personal experience as to what works and what doesn't. I also understand the inner workings of the IB and the weird and wonderful criteria that they set for their students, as well as how to 'hack' that sometimes complicated system. During my high school years, I tutored my siblings and their friends as well as my own friends and some other students who reached out. I consider myself pretty easy to get along with and I can quickly get a read on what exactly each student needs in the long run, in order for continued success :)

Education

I graduated from the IB Diploma Programme myself and I am currently doing my second year of a Bachelor of European Law at Maastricht University. I also attended UWCM for two years!

Experience / Qualifications

I have multiple years of tutoring IB students, including all different age ranges. I also was an IB student myself, and understand the inner workings and expectations.

she is really friendly and nice to study with.
Elme is wonderful and very articulate! My daughter finds her teaching very helpful in analyzing and writing up her assignments.
I can offer English tutoring for grades 3 through to DP2 in IB English. I passed the IB with a consistent 7 in English Language and Literature (the highest English course available) and received full marks for most of my assignments. I can help with fundamental concepts, understanding of what is expected to meet the IB's requirements, and how to answer the questions and do the assignments to meet the specific expectations of the IB. I am also available to help with the completion of assignments (in terms of guiding, correcting, and suggestions) and with whatever course work is assigned (including any books that are assigned.) NB: If the work with which I am to help is related to an assigned reading book, please inform me of the book in advance so that I can do some preparatory work.
I passed the IB diploma program for Biology Standard Level with full marks, I also received a 7 on my Internal Assessment (IA). I have a very good grasp on what the IB expects from it's students (all the weird and wonderful little criteria.) I have a very good grasp on Biology the subject itself, as it was one of my favorite classes and I understand the concepts on a broader and more minute scale, so I can help students to understand the topics as well as the specifics and how they all play into one another. I aim to provide students with not just the memorization of information in a somewhat robotic sense, but an actual understanding and comfortable grasp on all the topics, ideas and concepts. I can help with any homework or course work provided, including providing feedback and guidance on essays and assignments. I also like to set out extra homework (not difficult, just based on our sessions) to get back to me at the next meeting so that the student's confidence and grasp on the subjects continues to build and I can see where exactly they need assistance. NB: prior to our meetings, if possible, I would appreciate being sent whatever course work or topics the student is currently doing in class (or the syllabus, in the best case scenario) in order to best maximize my planning and ability to assist.

Ask me about Jamaica! Are you curious to learn more about Jamaica- to go beyond Reggae and Jerk? Its history, people, politics and culture?
Ever wondered about life in Jamaica beyond the lights of Kingston’s allure? This class offers an ethnographic journey of practises and cultures in rural Jamaica, illustrated through photos, songs and videos. Let's explore life in rural Jamaica! Born and raised in a remote rural district/village, I will take you on an authentic journey of first hand experiences- reliving fond childhood memories, the stories my grandmother told me and what a typical day is like. This will be grounded in the history and culture of Jamaica. Coming from a background in diplomacy, sharing about Jamaica's culture and historical experiences has always been essential for opening the door to a deeper unerstanding. I have an avid interest in other cultures and always take the time to explore wherever I go. Having been to South and Central America, Asia, North America and Europe, I know the unique value of such rich experiences. Whenever I was home-sick while posted abroad, talking about my homeland was the only cure. I will share with you all there is about living in rural Jamaica, from different perspectives of my childhood, teenage years and adult life. One unique bit is that the district's enduring small farms form the centrepiece around which everything revolves. Come prepared with a curious mind, and if you want to make notes take your pen and paper or do so on your devices. It is important for me that your are learning, so I encourage you to ask questions. Let's go beyond Kington's enigma!

International Baccalaureate Higher Level History. (Essay Writing for Papers 1, 2 and 3)
History Higher Level can be an extremely challenging class, not only incorporating the skill of essay writing but also that of memorising swathes of facts. As a recent graduate of the IB Diploma who achieved a 7 in History HL, I know exactly what it takes to achieve the top grades. I have designed my course to gradually build upon essay structure, planning and writing as skills. We will begin by identifying weak points in your own technique and then tailor the course to what suits your needs. I will help you to be able to be prepared for a myriad of different exam topics which may show up and provide you with exam techniques which are essential for reaching the higher grades. I will assign homework for some lessons to track your progress.

History (for primary/secondary school, GCSE, A level)
History is a fascinating subject to study at school whether studying it at a high level such as A level or in secondary school building crucial skills for the future that will help you understand the world. However, mastering the art of History exams can be difficult (as a student myself I know!), and therefore having a former student who has achieved the highest grades help with it can both enable a student to reach their full potential and discover a newfound excitement towards the subject.
