Online Guitar Lessons from Jazz Trained Guitarist - all levels welcome!

I’m a professional guitarist with a BA (Hons) Music degree in Jazz performance who has experience teaching students of all levels and ages.

I’ve been playing guitar for over 20 years, and write, record and perform music for a living alongside teaching. As someone who is constantly developing my own guitar playing and has dedicated my life to music, I believe I can pass on some of this knowledge to students who are interested in either picking up the guitar as a beginner or looking to take their guitar playing to the next level.

Whether you are totally starting from new, have been playing for a while but are stuck in a rut, looking to develop your voice as an improviser, expand your chord knowledge, learn how music theory works (and importantly, relate it to playing the guitar!), learn Jazz, learn how to compose on the guitar, or whatever stage of playing you happen to be at, I’m sure I can help you.

Some common topics include: chords (simple chords to advanced jazz voicings), rhythm/groove, learning to improvise/ solo, playing over chord changes, technique, rhythm guitar playing, scales, modes, bending strings, playing with ‘feel’, accompanying a vocalist, improving your ear, honing in on a specific style of playing (blues, jazz, funk, rock, soul, RnB, rock and roll, reggae, etc.)

My aim is to create a relaxed learning environment where you’re comfortable making mistakes and trying things out. For younger students/ beginners who don’t have a specific style in mind, I provide an enjoyable and clear methodology that gets students playing music and learning the fundamentals of technique, musicality and theory from the get go. For students who have a more solid idea of what they want to do with the guitar, I let your interests dictate where I take the lessons - I try to be as flexible as I can to get you to where you want to be, while providing a clear and consistent path to playing the music you love!

Lessons last 50 minutes.

About Me

I'm a London based guitarist and guitar teacher, I've been playing guitar for over 20 years and have taught students of different ages and abilities over the years.

I focus on getting students to play and understand music, not to get bogged down in theory (though I do teach it as we go and directly relate it to playing the instrument) or doing things in a too regimented way - it's all about finding the balance of structure and allowing your self to just have fun playing the instrument! At the end of the day, the goal is to be able to play music and express your self, and that's what I aim to help students achieve.

Education

BA (Hons) Jazz, Grade 8 Classical Guitar, Grade 8 Music theory, A level Music tech, years of personal study and playing experience (where most of the learning happened!)

I started out on Classical guitar at the age of 7 - from the get go I loved it, and I worked my way through the classical grades. At 12 I started electric guitar but it wasn't until I discovered Jimi Hendrix at age 15 that I really got into playing the electric guitar as seriously as I had done with classical guitar up until this point. I got really into blues at this point, and also Soul, Funk, Jazz, Jazz Fusion. At 18 I went to study Jazz at Leeds College of Music and I learned a whole lot over the course of 3 years. I moved back to London and started to play, write, and record guitar with artists to make my living, as well as starting my teaching career.

Experience / Qualifications

7 years teaching experience.

Just a few examples of students I have taught:

8 year old complete beginner - teaching them how to play chords and melody on guitar, play rhythmically, learn to play songs, start to read music, and improvise.

16 year old - taught this pupil from total beginner to the point where he can now play really convincing blues/ rock solos, play a fairly large variety of different chords, taught many songs, honed in on string bending, phrasing and playing with 'feel', playing funky rhythmic chordal work. Also has become familiar with the neck to a fairly high level, being able to find any note on any string in different places.

60 year old guitar player looking to learn Jazz - player was already familiar with a lot of open chords and bar chords and a few scales, I taught them basic theory of how major scale harmony works (so that they understood how chords and chord progressions are constructed), taught them Jazz voicings on the guitar, some common chord progressions in Jazz, and how to approach improvising over changes.

Guitar lessons at your home or online through skype/zoom
Do you have a guitar that feels lonely in your home ? Would like to be able to play some beautiful guitar music? If so, my goal is to give you everything you need to become an autonomous musician : technical skills, understanding of music theory, sight-reading (nothing to be afraid of!), and development of your very own musical sensibility - all while enjoying yourself. I'm a diplomed classical guitar teacher in France, finished a Performance Master in Basel Musik Akademie and am now pursuing a Music Pedagogy Master. My greatest joys are to perform and to teach, and generally speaking sharing my love for my instrument. I have 8 years experience in teaching and always strive to find better strategies and most adapted methods for every pupil that I meet, from 6 to 70+ years old. ===NEW ONLINE FORMULA=== With the lockdown situation, I now offer two different possibilites : - live video lessons, charged at the hour like an usual face-to-face lesson, at the frequency you choose ; - You send me as many videos and questions that you like; I answer under 24 hours with either text, scores and PDF material, video or audio recording, with the feedback and assignments you need, plus one check-in live 30 minutes call every two weeks, if you wish to. That's the good option if you like working by yourself on your own time, don't want to add appointments in your week, and want to get a lot of value. If you're interested in starting online classical guitar lessons with me, please send me a message so we can discuss which option would fit you best! I'm looking forward to hearing from you!

Vinicius
Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Guitar Lessons
Hello, my name is Vinicius, I am a Brazilian Biologist and I am a PhD candidate in Neuroscience at VU Amsterdam. I have been playing guitar since I was 11 and I have been teaching the instrument for over a decade now. I believe that motivating the student and helping him to integrate the instrument into his daily routine is the most important role that a teacher can do. My methodology is the flipped-classroom and I use the Google Classroom platform: every week, I will write a study guide with details of what we discussed during class + references (videos/blogs/books). This can be used by the student to study carefully at their own pace. During our next class, we will discuss the points you had the most difficulty and advance your knowledge further. I can also record videos and write essays from scratch specifically for you, whenever the material is not available online. About me I learned to play the guitar on my own - later in life I had classical training at university (singing, piano and classical guitar). I play Fingerstyle guitar, popularized by artists like Andy McKee, Tommy Emmanuel and Antoine Dufour, which consists of playing melody, harmony and percussion at the same time. I have published an EP named "14th of August" with original fingerstyle compositions in 2020.

SONGWRITING course with intensive and result-oriented methods
English Translation: contact me please SONGS generally consist of chord and text lines. But where does that information come from and how do you make something out of nothing? How do you make that one great hIT or how strongly does your new song affect your love? Well, that's called "inspiration processing" and how does that work? Well, I'll tell you that in my course. If you already play the guitar or piano, you are one step ahead. Your instrument is like a trampoline that offers you more options to go further and higher. Most 'songs' are born at the craziest moments. A good songwriter his / her antennas are always open :-) and for some it is a continuous activity. During my course I teach you through all sorts of tips and tricks (including: Travel Chord Duo Method - One Four Five and minor input - Key Word Designation and Relative Chord Progressions etc.) how you can achieve strong songs. For me it is a daily activity and I have been writing all my life for others and sometimes for myself. All in all I have sold more than a million copies worldwide as an author / composer / performer. Is that little or is that a lot? I do not know. It doesn't interest me that much anymore. I want to share my knowledge about how to write a song with motivated people who want to go further than just replaying others' songs. Whether they get stuck somewhere during composing and who are not afraid to seek advice. Music is a life flirt. There are only two types of music: good and bad ... Do you have a foundation of chords, do you want to know how to make a good song .....? Just book an hour to get started. That is the scan hour. Are we lying together and is there a click? If you book and I confirm, then you also know who I am and where I hide :-) Not satisfied after the first 'lesson'? Money Back. Danny

Apprendre à jouer à la guitare acoustique/électrique
Guitar lessons are always useful for all levels of guitar playing. the course content will depend on the level of the student and is entirely open to any preferences in songs or techniques the student wishes to learn. My course is designed in such a way that it focuses on the student's creativity with the guitar and works towards fine tuning what will eventually become the student's original song or composition. I encourage my students to tap into their creativity, since in my experience, I have found that this is where the pleasure and beauty of music tends to surface, when there are the least amount of boundaries possible. All styles of music are welcome!

PIANO LESSONS: What about learning how to play the piano?
Piano, the instrument used by the romantics to make their most beautiful music, but also by the most experimental and modern composers to create their amazing music. Isn't it a great instrument to play? With more than 5 years of experience teaching in music schools and 8 years as a private piano teacher, I developed an efficient and "fun"-focusing way to teach how to play the instrument. Every student is different, so also the way to play and learn shall be different, which makes every single lesson special and rewarding. I also offer the possibility of teaching in groups: if you want to know more about this option. I hope I become the teacher you want and need!
