Basics of Gemstones (This is an interesting program for those who like to learn the basics about colored stones and metals)

I'm AJP (Accredited Jewelry Professional) certified by GIA (Gemological Institute of America). I have a good background in jewelry making since my childhood years. I also taught product knowledge to hundreds of jewelry sales representatives in the middle east and the arabian gulf countries.

Jewelry is the art of expressing beauty and elegance. If you are passionate to buy, collect or simply know the colored stones and their characteristics, nature, birthstones and the formation of gems, then this program is for you.

Be literate about colored stones next time you shop online or visit a jewelry outlet. This program is not for experts or jewelry professionals or artists but for amateurs. Anyone interested to know about the nature's products (Gems) can join this program and become knowledgeable of the basics of gems. When you become literate about gemstones, you can gently educate people about the same. I have met many customers and even jewelry sales officers who do not distinguish between Cubic Zirconia and Zircon, for example! Most people consider 'artificial diamonds' as Zircon stones. The truth is that those fabricated (factory-made) stones that look like diamonds are Cubic Zirconia and NOT Zircons. Zircons are as natural gemstones as diamonds and sometimes even more expensive than some diamonds. This is misleading a sales person or a buyer who thinks that he 'bought' Zircon. Another assumption is that some customers seek for 'Belgium diamonds'. In fact, there is not even one diamond which can be mined from Belgium but most accurate diamond cuts are cut and shaped in Belgium. So we can correct this misconcept when buying or selling diamonds. All these confusions can vanish if one has a basic knowledge about gemstones.

In this program, you will learn the origins of gems, their formation, species and nature of colored stones, how raw gems are cut into shapes and are used in jewelry. You will also have a practical knowledge about families of gemstones and the most famous ones. We will learn together about the color-grading of different gems and what makes them precious to consumers. Additionally, you will know your birthstone and the meaning behind it.

The sessions are 45 or 60 minutes. I use professional material with powerpoint slides explaining every basic knowledge. Each unit ends with an easy quiz to confirm the knoweldge a learner obtains. Each unit contains a very short video (2-3 minutes) that can help you visualize the lessons learned.

I guarantee that joiners of this program will complete it with a happy heart and full satisfaction as the course itself is interesting and not difficult to grasp at all. Upon completing this course, your emotions towards wearing gems or buying them will increase as you will understand the value their beauty creates for those who love colored, natural stones.

I look forward to teach you the basics of gemstones.

Stay brilliant like a diamond :)

About Me

“Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right”.

I think when Henry Ford said the above words, he said them with full awareness that the key of becoming the person we desire to be is in our own hands. This same principle motivates me to better understand my role in this life and make better success stories in the lives of others. Below is a brief introduction about myself and professional services.

My name is Matthias. I'm an ICF Certified Leadership and Life Coach who can assist you in discovering yourself and shaping a meaningful purpose for your life. I have coached and mentored thousands of individuals of various age groups in the past 25 years. I'm passionate to see how others grow in their personal and organizational skills. I believe in 1-minute-value coaching that achieves the desired outcomes. It will be my pleasure to build a learning/coaching partnership together as we go through the sessions.

I teach both business languages (Business English/Business Arabic) and organizational leadership and soft skills. My methodology is design-based and I can guarantee results in fashionable time. I have segmented my online services in three programs: Leadership/Life Coaching, Business English/Business Arabic/ and Basics in Gemstones. I have passion and capacity to teach in the three above knoweldge areas. My learners come from different levels: novice, amateur, expert and master levels. Working with beginners makes me feel happy as I witness how they obtain skills and apply them step-by-step as I coach and mentor them properly. I like to teach in a modern and "fashionable" (as Shakespeare first used the word) style that can help learners enhance skills and performance. I have worked with multi-national and culturally diverse individuals and found out that one common element in all which is humanity. That is why I believe in human capital investment and dedicate my knowledge and attention to human resources management through proper coaching. Our human value is expressed by the way we think, feel and act. We as humans we have the capacity to always be learning and excelling. When I was in my twenties, a true story of an old lady in her nineties inspired me to not stop learning. Often she had been seen during the breaks in the American University of Beirut campus, sitting on chair in the green gardens of the campus, holding a book and continuously reading something. She had always been perceived by new students as the white-haired 'professor' in one of the faculties, until the day when group of friends approached her and asked about what would be the major that she teaches. She looked up to them with her humble eyes and said: "I'm a student here"! The morale of such an extra-ordinary story is that we do not stop learning things when we want to no matter what age we are.

I strive to understand my client's needs and passion. That helps me to tailor my coaching sessions to identify areas of improvement through proper guidance. I define coaching as the mechanism of facilitating the learning process of an individual through proper guidance towards a desired outcome which a coachee discovers by receiving insight from a coaching session and heading towards establishing goal(s) to achieve them on time. This helps the coachee to grow in skillogy by applying a learning outcome.

During my introductory session with a potential client, I put a distinguishing factor between coaching and mentoring and sometimes classes can be a merge of coaching and mentoring. I define mentoring as the mechansim of learning where a master mentor guides, advises, recommends solutions, shares stories and experiences, deliver a defined knoweldge area, motivate and inspire a mentee to grow in personal and professional life.

I teach conversational English and Arabic for those who like to communicate in Arabic or in English. I do not use textbooks at all but focus on the practical learning of the language you choose. I do not teach grammar directly, as grammar stops learners to think, something which is not required in my professional classes. I can guarantee to enhance your skills in Arabic or in English only after establishing a good foundation within 4 months provided you as a learner commit 3 hours per week (3 sessions of 1 hour each). I do not teach more than 3 hours per week to allow students to comprehend and apply their weekly knowledge of the chosen language. I have 25 years of teaching experience to different age groups. I believe grammar STOPS a learner to think and this is not required in my professional approach. I teach grammar indirectly, because a learner should not exert effort to learn grammar. That never helped anyone even at school days. We all learned languages when we used them in casual conversations. I want a learner of any language to "Say what he thinks not to think what to say". This formula will accelerate the learning by 3 times. For conversational English or Arabic, I do not recommend TEXTBOOK. A textbook approach may seem attractive but it doesn't add a long-term value on a learner's process of obtaining a language skill. Textbook is a waste of time for conversational English or Arabic in its introductory learning phase. It can be helpful later when a learner advances. I also focus on "speaking properly" not "speaking fluently". People give credit to those who speak properly compared to those who speak fluently but do alot of mistakes. Fluency can be established on a long-term exposure to any langauge. During my venture with languages and learners, I discovered that effortless English or effortless Arabic is the best strategy to follow. Learners should feel fun and passionate learning and improving a second or a third language. The key to learn any language is "Expression" (speaking). Humans learn by 4 mechanisms in the following order: listening, speaking, reading and finally writing. During the 3-4 months of enhancing your language, I work on the listening aspect of learning with a student - with gentle attempts of expressing as well (if a learner is a novice or a beginner). That establishes the foundation to a learner's new language. Then I work on a learner's speaking skills (expressing) and from there we carry on. Learners may require to learn speaking, reading and writing at the same time. It's their choice. They only need passion, time and a good tutor like me! This is your lifetime investment. Therefore, hire the tutor who can guarantee a change and ensure your proper command of the language you choose to learn. I look forward to add value to your language skills. See you in a class!
When writing a text, most people express differently than how they speak in actual one-to-one conversations. They become more formal and impressive in their speech. In this 12 unit course (each unit consisting of two 1-hour lessons), I will teach you how to write in a free, modern style and avoid traditional ways of expressing your thoughts both in personal text messages, professional emails, letters and more. It's time to make a smooth transition from an old to a new, modern way of writing away from nominalizations and high vocabulary contents. We will avoid decorative and figurative speech because those are used in poetry and artistic themes. In business, we deal with facts and figures. Our purpose is to express, not necessarily to impress! There is a common assumption, that those who write longer and impressive words make readers believe them. They make attempts of persuading others in taking decisions to what they propose. The reailty is that we can still persuade others by being genuine and concise in our words without making 'uturns'. People will believe us when we reflect the same personality and create the same identity touch of ourselves both when communicating to them face to face or through texts. Your readers should not feel that you're a different person than how you're perceived in real life. So the free, modern style of writing recommends that we keep the same style both in oral or written speech. This is my personal struggle with professionals who are engaged in business communication. They do not like the idea of this revolutionary approach. Most managers who read reports, business letters, proposals and mainly emails prefer not to read overloaded texts but concise ones. No surprise that most managers call workers to one-to-one meetings after reading heavy, boring, unclear and nominalized emails. I'll give a practical example soon. Most formal writers in companies prefer to use nominalization instead of consiceness. eg. "As per the discussion we had yesterday" (nominalized) "As we discussed yesterday" (concise) Other common mistakes are when people use passive voice sentences in emails than active ones. eg. "The project was approved by the top management" (passive) "The top management approved the project" (active) I encourage writers to stick to one writing style. People are the same when speaking and writing. They should not be perceived differently by readers when expressing their thougths in a written format. In this technical skill course, I introduce the latest protocols of modern style of writing in business without making attempts of changing your style as a learner, because your style should convey feelings and thoughts about your personality in communication. You will also learn how to apply: - The KISS formula - The ABC formula - Netiquette Most importantly, upon the completion of this 12 unit course, you will learn how to produce a business piece (letters, emails, memos..) using the Four-point Plan Model. The course has a blended learning nature. It means I will ask you to complete small, light assignments to apply the knoweldge area covered. Most academics, scholars and professional experts recommend the modern style of writing away from vague and out-of-date written approaches. I look forward to teaching you how to master this skill. Stay safe! Matthias
