Hello! I am a Canadian from the West Coast and I have recently made Berlin my home. I am excited to offer flute lessons here, because I have a lot I can teach. I have taught for a few years in Toronto, Canada where I hold a degree in music. To begin with, all my lessons are grounded in body and mind awareness. I strive to impart to my students an ability to stay centred. My knowledge comes both from my teachers in the past, my experience teaching, my experience playing, practising, and performing, on the flute and other instruments and the study of Alexander technique, Tai Chi, and yoga. The insights I share are always unique to each student, as each student will have particular strengths and weaknesses with sound production and technique. At the base of all my lessons is what’s most fundamental— developing a rich expressive tone through the control of the respiratory apparatus. What I do differently from other teachers is incorporating both the “classical side” and the “jazz side” in my lessons. Through the “classical side“ we will approach expression, clarity of tone, phrasing, and breathing through the interpretation of music. Through the “jazz side” we will work on developing a basic working practical theory with improvisational exercises, which you will be able to apply both to improvising your own music and interpreting other’s music. My desire is that my students don’t become “caged” into the notes on the page, but are able to freely and fully express themselves on their own. Ultimately, the two sides meet in the ideal of all my teaching—to help bring out my student’s voice. This is the art which the great performers of the world have mastered— communicating with their own voice. With this, it won’t matter whether you’re playing your music or someone else’s— it will sound like “your own”. Hi everyone! My name is Curragh and I am a guitar teacher from the UK. Learning an instrument is hugely rewarding and a great investment, one that I believe is accessible to anyone. I am a lifelong lover of music with a bachelor's degree in Jazz Guitar from Leeds Conservatoire and a BTEC diploma with distinction in Music Practice. I have played in many different ensembles and have attended the Bath International Guitar Festival in the UK, on a scholarship. My teaching philosophy is that the ears are just as important to train as the hands and I integrate this into my lessons. It is also important to enjoy playing and feel excited by it, however, as this is the best motivator for students! It's how I learned after all... I am happy to teach absolute beginners through to advanced students, ages 7 and up. I offer piano lessons for children (from 7 years), teenagers and adults (no age limit). For beginners I use the Bastian piano school as basic material. I also offer music theory. This makes it easier to read music and you get a better understanding of the music. Additional material for technique (finger strength of foam for beginners and intermediate levels) is also offered if required.

In 2020 I finished my master's in Music Therapy in Germany. At the end of my studies, I did my research on online music playing and wrote my thesis on music interaction through online platforms which gave me a great deal of experience when it comes to online teaching. I teach for all levels, from children starting from zero to students who want to prepare certifications at the Conservatories, passing through amateurs or simply curious of any age. I firmly believe in the importance of knowing how to read music and this is exactly what I teach first, obviously adapting the method to the age of my students: knowing how to read music is knowing one more language, which, if learned well, won’t ever be forgotten (like riding a bicycle!) and it is an invaluable wealth. Knowledge of solfège or music theory is not required, we can always discuss this in class if you wish, but that is certainly not mandatory ;) I have been playing the guitar since I was 9 years old and for several years now I have been playing in professional bands with which I have been able to play on sugar rock, for example.
