YunaPiano, Music theory lessons in English for all ages and levels.
I am a highly motivated and enthusiastic piano teacher from South Korea with an experience working with students from a diverse range of backgrounds and ages.
After graduating from a university in Seoul in South Korea with a B.A. in classical piano, I taught piano to foreign students in English not only in Korean.
Since September 2017, I have been working as a piano teacher at this beautiful music school in Berlin. I am teaching piano to 18 students using English and a decent amount of German.
I create professional, tailored and individual lesson plans for a diverse range of various students. In lessons, I engage actively with students and focuse on improving posture, developing practice strategies (i.e. utilizing various rhythm patterns on difficult, technical passages), and setting regular practice times, while also building a positive and encouraging atmosphere.
I am a strong interpersonal communicator and I am passionate about helping my students grow and realize their full potential. I teach with love, patience, and encouragement, and I have a strong flexibility to adapt to novel circumstances.
I give piano lessons at a music school in Reinickendorf in Berlin and I also occasionally offer piano lessons in student's own home in Berlin.

MarkJazz or classical piano lessons from a native English speaker
Teaching is something I really enjoy. To impart knowledge to a student requires a level of understanding deeper than that of an ordinary performer, and I enjoy the challenge of expressing ideas in a personal way that is relevant to the student. To watch someone's love of music grow as a result of playing the piano is a rewarding experience, and something I always put a strong focus on. If you can learn to have fun at the piano and nurture your love of music it becomes something truly life-affirming.
I teach at the Piano Center close to Friedrichstraße, on high quality grand and upright pianos. Please enquire for details.
You can read a bit about my performing career below.
Mark is a pianist and composer from the UK working in the fields of jazz and improvised music. He is a Yamaha Jazz Scholar and Peter Whittingham Award winner, and has performed his own music in the UK at the Proms Late Series, Manchester Jazz Festival, The Vortex, Southbank Centre and for BBC Radio 3, as well as abroad at Dokkhuset, Trondheim; Salle Maurice Fleuret, Paris; Jazzhouse, Copenhagen; and A-Trane, Berlin. He was named in a list of musicians who made a big impression in 2015 by London Jazz News and included in Jazzwise Magazine's list of musicians to look out for in 2016.
Mark has undertaken studies at conservatoires in Berlin, Copenhagen, Paris, Amsterdam and Birmingham with some world-class musicians and creative thinkers - John Taylor, Greg Cohen, Søren Kjærgaard, Liam Noble and Harmen Fraanje to name just a few. He graduated with First Class Honours from the undergraduate jazz course at Birmingham Conservatoire in 2015, receiving the Jazz Department Performance Prize, Dean's Award for Exceptional Achievement, and the Principals Prize for outstanding contribution to the life of the Conservatoire. He concluded European Jazz Masters (EUJAM) studies at the Jazz-Institut Berlin in July 2017, receiving the full distinction.
As a leader and sideman in diverse artistic projects Europe-wide, Mark is often found straddling genre boundaries to create music uniquely his own - notably his twelve-piece large ensemble A Moveable Feast, London Sinfonietta oboist Melinda Maxwells classical/improvisation group, a freewheeling duo with trumpeter Tom Syson, an improvised solo project, pan-European trio Nighthawks and numerous collaborative settings internationally. He has furthermore performed classical works by J.S. Bach, Anton Webern, and Olivier Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time.
Mark's discography includes his debut album for large ensemble A Moveable Feast, released and toured extensively to outstanding reviews in 2015; Melinda Maxwells Blue Bamboo, featuring a world premiere of Messiaen's LAmour de Piroutcha for oboe and piano; a duet with renowned pianist and former teacher John Law; and a duo recording for the Yamaha New Jazz Sessions with trumpeter Tom Syson, released through Jazzwise Magazine in 2016.
