About Me

Hello,

My name is Paul. I'm a musician, singer, songwriter, recording artist and private tutor with over 15 years of experience working in music. Here's a little bit about my story.

My musical journey began at the age of 7 when I started taking lessons at my hometown's classical music conservatoire. I studied Piano, Flute, Music Theory, and Vocal Training for 10 years, achieving Grade 8 qualifications. At the age of 15, I started teaching myself to play guitar and my musical direction turned towards playing popular music and becoming a professional musician and songwriter.

Moving to London after the university opened up the doors for me and gave me a lot of new opportunities to develop my music career. To this date, I have worked, performed, and recorded with many talented artists and founded my own rock band Dead Writers, which has gained interest from several magazines and radios, having recently been praised personally by Nick Cave and featured on his Bad Seed TV YouTube channel and official website. I have also written, arranged, and recorded music for short films and advertisements, and have performed at multiple live events, both as a solo artist and with Dead Writers.

My teaching experience spans 6 years, working mainly as a private tutor and also in primary and secondary schools around London. I teach Piano, Singing, Guitar, and Music Theory to both adults and children. I value the experience of teaching as a rewarding way to pass on my knowledge and I enjoy having students who want to take on the challenge of becoming better performers. I'm a flexible tutor and I prioritize the joy of playing music above all, so I like to keep a balance between providing material my students might not know while always respecting their own direction and music taste. My repertoire includes a wide variety of tunes in different genres (rock, classical, blues, folk, film music, pop, jazz) so there's always enough to choose from. I am familiar with the Grades syllabus and have enjoyed excellent results with all my students so far.

My approach to private lessons is to deliver professional, friendly, and dynamic lessons that inspire the learner to develop a passion for what they are doing whilst giving a sense of purpose. I like to call it 'building a relationship with your instrument'. I enjoy seeing my students make progress and have a wide range of resources to fulfill their expectations and help them succeed in their own terms, from useful technique tricks to all kinds of learning games for the youngest learners.

Creative piano and music theory lessons, for all ages and abilities.
I'm a piano and music theory teacher with over thirty years experience, and a performing singer, pianist, and songwriter. My lessons are very much about what my pupils want to learn, so I'm making sure I pick the right music to make the lesson fun and rewarding. It can be Classical music, Pop, a bit of Jazz, Brazilian music, World music, or any other interesting musical language. I teach piano, theory and harmony, ear and rhythm training, general history of music, with a creative approach. My lessons can include songwriting, sing and play practice, listening/analysing practice. My aim is to provide each pupil with the specific tools they need to enjoy playing music. My background is classical piano, but as a professional musician I have approached music also from different angles. As a teacher I enjoy a creative and open approach, any interesting musical language is welcome in the lesson. I make sure I pick the right music to meet the pupil's interests and tastes, and I integrate classical music both as a precious technique tool, and as a great territory to explore.

Piano lessons - music theory and harmony - for any level
I teach for all levels, from children starting from zero to students who want to prepare certifications at the Conservatories, passing through amateurs or simply curious of any age. I firmly believe in the importance of knowing how to read music and this is exactly what I teach first, obviously adapting the method to the age of my students: knowing how to read music is knowing one more language, which, if learned well, won’t ever be forgotten (like riding a bicycle!) and it is an invaluable wealth. Starting from that point I teach the position of the hand, the arm and the whole body at the piano, the fundamentals of the piano technique (giving great importance to the percussive movement of the finger and the distribution of weight), the understanding of musical language, the expression of the personality through the keyboard, the search for touch and knowledge of piano repertoire.

Cheslava
Piano and Singing tutor with 5 years experience and professional education
From my childhood I have been studying music and art: sang in choir and solo, played piano, painted, studied music history and literature, solfeggio. Later in college I have also learned choir conducting, had ensemble and choir singing lessons, cultural studies. During last year in university I had pedagogy practice at university and at private art school (where I worked as a music tutor before the war - piano, voice). I truly enjoyed working with students. They all were different age (8 - 40+ years old) and level. But all were very interesting and work was pleasant. My education was very various: my core subjects were conducting, choir, voice, piano. So it allowed me to work with children, teens and adults with quite wide range of interests and needs: some students needed/wanted to learn particular composition(s), sometimes pop songs arrangements, some were interested in “introduction” to the music, some wanted to renew skills they gained in their childhood and continue their journey to the music world. In addition I prepared presentations (which contained information about cultural and historical background and musical and character/art analysis). So after graduation from choir conducting faculty (which allowed me to deepen my knowledge in many important compatible branches) I concentrated on studying classical singing and piano, expanded my cultural studies and analysis knowledge, practiced solfeggio and harmony.

Ziad
Oriental Arabic Oud and Singing Teacher in Mönchengladbach
Experienced Oud & Oriental singing teacher for over 8 years, Lebanese, currently residing in Mönchengladbach. I studied for 8 years at the Lebanese National Conservatory. I was a teacher at Casa Beethoven Academy in Lebanon and also offered private lessons. Additionally, I served as a concertmaster in the oriental orchestra "Loubnan Assalam" for more than 5 years. My reason for relocating to Germany is to complete my studies at the University of Kamp Lintfort. I am fluent in English, Couramment en français, ولغتي الأم هي اللغة العربية. Unfortunately, I speak only a little German (Aber leider spreche ich ein bisschen Deutsch). My recommendation for learning the Oud is to begin by studying musical notes and notation before delving into songs. While some students prefer to jump straight into playing songs, understanding the fundamentals of music notation accelerates progress in the long run. Dedication and hard work can yield significant progress within a year, enabling you to play simple tunes. However, if you lack a passion for music or the instrument itself, I advise against pursuing it. As a friendly and passionate teacher, I derive joy from witnessing my students' progress and enjoy playing duets with them. While in-person meetings are preferable, I also offer online lessons for those unable to meet in person. Feel free to leave me a message, and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.
