Piano lessons for acquiring and/or improving piano skills

In my class, I teach piano in a way that allows you to make progress on your own. "Don't give a man a fish, instead teach him how to fish," is the idea here. My methods include, besides basics, approaches to expressing your own musicality, stable memorization, practice habits and efficiency, technical ease, focus exercises, body awareness, and stage fright. Hence, I am best suited for intermediate and advanced students that have the desire to either study piano on a collegiate level or make significant improvements for themselves. I would like to add at this point that I have a special affinity for the concert etudes by Frédéric Chopin. However, I am perfectly happy to start with students from the very beginning as well and regardless, I will adjust to my student's needs upon mutual agreement. My free times that I listed as available are a rough estimate, lesson times are normally negotiable.

About Me

My name is Stefan, and I am German-born pianist with an undergraduate and graduate degree from the US (Fort Worth and Minneapolis respectively) and a post-graduate degree from Belgium (Antwerp). I have performed in the US, Germany, France, Austria, Italy, Belgium, Estonia and South Korea. Since my first year (2012) as a music student at a university and much to my own initial surprise, I have taught and coached my piano colleagues. What started out as discussions about fingerings turned eventually into full coaching sessions, which significantly helped them. Through this, I have developed a professionally sufficient and mentally healthy approach to teaching the piano.

In most of my lessons, my work is the one of a diagnostician. I attempt to precisely determine what causes issues and then find the best possible solution for the student. I am nurturing, calm, kind, reasonable and understanding, however I am direct. I will do everything I can during the lessons in order to help my students, however, I cannot practice for them. Once the student walks out of the lesson, I am not in charge of what happens. Hence, the student's improvement is just as much dependent on the student's practice habits, as it is on my instruction. I never expect fast results, rather small, steady and continuous improvements, since learning the piano is essentially like learning a language. No infant has learned their mother tongue in less than 3 years and it is better to perceive piano as a skill that comes over time through training rather than something that only "talented" people can do.

While I've only had my first lesson so far, the initial impression was very positive. Stefan is a very polite, kind, and yet direct person, which made the lesson very pleasant as well as efficient. He asked a lot of questions to ensure he understands my goals as well as my musical preferences. I am quite excited to continue my lessons with him.
I have my own piano studio for children & adults who like to be involved with music. Stefan's lessons are a great professional support for me: for my own study, to bring my piano technique up to speed & to sharpen my understanding of music. He is an excellent and passionate pianist himself and that works inspiring. Stefan has insight into how someone can learn new things, and a very good approach to teach you a good piano technique in a relaxed way. You come to yourself, in your body, in the music and this opens new doors for a very personal experience with music. For me this is the ideal input at the right moment. If you want to work with piano semi-professionally or professionally, this coaching is highly recommended!

Music - Violin and Piano Classes - Beginner to Intermediate
I have been learning the violin and piano since 5 years old, and am currently taking a bachelor in Music Performance in Violin, in the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp. Students of any age are welcome, and I have special experience with beginner and younger students, having given a lot of lessons of piano and music theory. I teach in English, Portuguese, Spanish, and basic Dutch. The individual violin and piano lessons are personalized and tailored to the progress and learning ability of each student. Emphasis is placed on developing good posture and ease of movements at the early stage. We will then continue to revise and enhance technique while taking on more challenging repertoire as they progress. Lessons are stress-free and I always try to provide a safe and calm environment for an engaging and fun class! Games for little kids are a absolute must! Don't hesitate to contact me if you have a question!:)

Piano lessons given by an Antwerp's Conservatory Master's Student
Do you want to learn how to play piano? Do you want to have music in your own hands? In this class, you can learn how to play this beautiful instrument as well as develop your technique and musicality. You will also learn and develop music theory knowledge, for instance, reading scores, basic harmony, and rhythm. I have 20 years of experience playing the piano and I love to share my knowledge and love for the instrument! I am a classically trained pianist that is now studying composition at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp. As a pianist, I worked as a private teacher, and as an accompanist. I am familiar with classical repertoire as well as music from the 20th and 21st-century. If you have a specific kind of repertoire or piece in mind we will work on it! If you are unsure about what to play, I can give you suggestions and show you different repertoire so you can choose something that truly captivates you. The most important thing is that you develop or continue to grow your love for music and the piano!

Piano lessons to learn how to play the piano well for all levels
In my course I'm offering to share my knowledge and passion with you, whether your preference lies with classical or otherwise. I work best with more advanced students to be able to go more in depth but would be happy to welcome any level of playing in my class. In a way I'd like to think that everything is in connection with everything else. A musician is not only a musician, but also a painter, poet, dancer (though in my case that last one can't be taken literally) and even a scientist. Why do I say this? Because I can teach you how to observe and learn from these connections which will improve your musicality, problem solving skills, technical skills, memorisation and many other aspects of your music playing - and life in general. Welcome to my class!

How do I learn to play the piano as quickly as possible? Private lessons Antwerp!
How do I learn to play the piano as quickly as possible? A question that I am asked every day. The answer is simple: - Find a fantastic piano mentor - Practice regularly - not for long, but EFFICIENTLY - Playing the piano is auditory, but also VISUAL - Note learning lessons are unnecessary in this digital age - use the right apps My piano lesson focuses on: - Finger Flexibility / Keyboard Insight / Understanding Harmony - 50% technique - 50% fun (although technique practice can also be fun!) Pianistic greetings! Alex

Piano and Guitar Classes for Entry levels, Beginners, and Intermediates
I teach Entry level/Beginner/ Intermediate Piano and Guitar lessons with a focus on different styles, techniques, and rhythms from a broad base of musical genres. Classes are designed for aspiring musicians with some musical background and also those with little or none. Each lesson is designed to keep the student at the peak of their abilities by giving both challenging new pieces and reinforcing their own technical skill. I also put some emphasis on incorporating students' own personal musical tastes and styles to bring their passion to the music they want to play. In the first lesson, we can get to know each other and you can get an idea for how the lessons will be taught while letting me know what elements you'd like to focus on in the future.

Learn Piano and Improvisation and practice other languages :)
The most important matter that I could write here about is my passion to teach. I've been teaching already for more than 10 years, from kids to adults. I'm a classical pianist, but I am opened to other musical styles. What I want you to get from your lessons with me, is not only a huge knowledge of theorical stuff or a great technique, I would like to show you my musical world, the imagination and inner exploration that is required to understand and to love music in a whole new level. Once you have found them, it will be very hard to quit playing! The class duration: You can choose! 20 minutes (Great for the youngest : 3 years old) 30 minutes (Ideal for young beginners from 4 years old) 45 minutes (Intermediate+ adult beginners) 1 hour (Intermediate and combined with some Music Theory) I use different methods depending on: 1) The goals of my student 2) The language that we will use on class 3) Age and musical preferences: I start to teach children from 3 years old, we make games and they learn to play through musical stories that I have created throughout my pedagogical career.

Piano lessons - music theory and harmony - for any level
I teach for all levels, from children starting from zero to students who want to prepare certifications at the Conservatories, passing through amateurs or simply curious of any age. I firmly believe in the importance of knowing how to read music and this is exactly what I teach first, obviously adapting the method to the age of my students: knowing how to read music is knowing one more language, which, if learned well, won’t ever be forgotten (like riding a bicycle!) and it is an invaluable wealth. Starting from that point I teach the position of the hand, the arm and the whole body at the piano, the fundamentals of the piano technique (giving great importance to the percussive movement of the finger and the distribution of weight), the understanding of musical language, the expression of the personality through the keyboard, the search for touch and knowledge of piano repertoire.
