Piano or Music Theory Lessons from an experienced and knowledgeable teacher

Hello!

I am pleased to be offering piano lessons to beginner and intermediate level students! Alongside the technicalities of playing the instrument, I have a broad knowledge of different genres of music.

If you are interested in writing your own music that is wonderful! I will be delighted to give you all the skills you need.

We can begin with any genre of music from the first lesson. Knowledge of how to read sheet music is not necessary for beginners.

I trained in piano at the TUD Conservatory of Music in Dublin, and have had many performance opportunities there and in Amsterdam. I have also been taking regular piano lessons and at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam since I arrived here. I have taught piano in various different music schools and programmes in Ireland, but my main experience is from private teaching.

Alongside his many solo performances he also finds the time to play chamber music, and performs regularly with the main professional orchestras in Ireland. If he's not busy with music you'll probably find him out on his bike or enjoying a swim.

Fun lessons and great teacher! He pays a lot of attention to detail from the very beginning. After 2 lessons I can already see a big improvement.
I feel very fortunate to have found Fiachra to assist my daughter (almost 14) to progress on her violin. She was lacking some confidence having moved countries and needing to change to anew teacher. Fiachra is patient and encouraging but also holds her accountable with setting her homework and checking in with her on her progress.
Greetings! I am a graduate of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. I also completed a Diploma in Music Education and Performance at the Royal Irish Academy of Music before coming to The Netherlands. I have had lots of experience teaching in schools and privately, and I get so much joy teaching people and helping them learn an instrument. My main goal as a teacher is to help students find their passion and love for music and for playing an instrument. I am also very practical in my approach to teaching, always trying to make things as clear as possible for each and every student to understand. I have plenty of experience teaching people of all ages. I also have a good knowledge of individual personalities and temperament which helps me to tailor the lesson to suit you individually. When teaching young children, I find that using various different games with and without the instrument helps a lot with their understanding and development. This resonates well with their impressive abilities to play for many hours every day - something which I think is very important for young children to make the most of while they have it. My understanding of the lessons is that every student should come out with the best feeling of wanting to improve their playing, and I always try to motivate every student in whichever way works best for them. I am also very open to using different approaches when it is not working for the student, and I am known to listen very well to feedback like this. I am flexible with the styles of music I teach and have experience in many different genres. If you need some ideas, together we can find the music that suits you best. The majority of students who start out do so on the violin, and some change to viola some time later. Some students who begin their musical journey on the violin go on to play not only viola but other stringed instruments such as cello and double bass if they grow away from the violin at any stage - so choosing violin in the beginning will certainly give you the most options.

Yammy
Private Music Lessons for Piano, Violin and Erhu (Chinese violin)
As a Cambridge University graduate in the Faculty of Education, I am delighted to have settled down in the Netherlands since September 2019. I started piano at the age of 5, and music has been an important part of my life ever since. Classically trained as a pianist and violinist, I picked up another instrument named Erhu (Chinese violin) and became a professional performer. I am experienced in teaching both children and adults, from different cultural backgrounds. Also, I have been actively involved in both Western and Chinese orchestra since high school. Thanks to my years of experience in being an orchestra member and soloist, I am also familiar with orchestral music. As a humble music therapist, I am passionate about music and believe in the power of music. I trust that music is in everybody and I respect every student's individuality and thus tailor my teaching methods to develop my students' full potential. I started teaching in 2009 and most students put their trust in me when they first decided to learn an instrument. I also enjoy exploring the world of music with students with learning disabilities. I am proud to say, my students, aged from 5 to 60, are enthusiastic in playing the instrument they have chosen and keen to improve their skills following my advice. I adopt a flexible approach in teaching - I believe every student is unique and my job is to develop the strengths and improve the weaknesses. I put a lot of emphasis on a solid foundation in my teaching. For young children, I tend to use a more interactive approach to explain complicated music theories, yet strict in the fundamentals such as posture and rhythm. For adults, I am always happy to discuss with them my lesson plan and choose the best exercises and songs that suit their music interests and needs. For my students who would like to take exams, I am happy to tailor the lessons based on their progress. I believe in the quality of learning and understanding rather than the number of pieces that they learn. Many beginners and their parents have put their trusts in me and achieved distinction in their first ABRSM exam. I am fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese, and a native speaker of Cantonese Chinese. I am happy to travel and travel costs will be added on the top of the standard tuition fee. *Proof of qualifications avaliable upon requests.

Each voice is different and each person approaches art in their own way. In our classes we aim to find the best possible way to realize your musical goals. The knowledge my teachers at the Conservatorium impart to me is fresh and ready to be shared. I like to create a comfortable environment where one feels excited to sing and challenge themselves. We will go over the techniques of singing, vocal health, other vocal skills, understanding of harmony and bringing out emotion while singing. I've been teaching people of all ages since I was 21. During my 6 years of teaching, I've taught at some of the best local music schools in New Delhi (like One World College of Music and Blue Note School of Music) and have also been tutoring people in private 1v1 classes on both voice and piano.

Classical piano lessons in Amsterdam, for children and adults
The class is offered to children and adults, who would like to discover the music world and broaden their understanding of this form of art. For children it will be a nice, light and creative journey since I spend quite a lot of time with kids of different ages. For adults I could suggest either a fun way of learning or a deep and thoughtful approach to the piano playing. I am flexible and opened to the conversation! This also applies to the schedule, location, time and the repertoire you/your child would like to play. Any wishes regarding the materials, goals, directions (etc.) of the class are welcomed and highly appreciated! Looking forward to meeting you and seeing your smile after the lesson! :)
