Recorder, flute and piano lessons, from medieval to contemporary music for all ages

“An exciting and versatile young recorder player, committed to pushing the boundaries of his instrument” (Erik Bosgraaf, 2021)

Hello!

I am a professional recorder and flute player with a passion for both early and contemporary music, offering lessons on the recorder, flute, piano and in music theory in the Amsterdam area and online.

I graduated from a Masters in recorder at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam Cum Laude, with a scholarship from The Countess of Munster Musical Trust. Previously, I graduated from the Royal College of Music London with a First- Class Joint Honours Bachelor’s degree in Flute and Recorder. In 2021 I was a finalist for the Moeck/SRP recorder competition as part of the London Early Music Festival.

I am an encouraging and dedicated teacher who believes that effective practice, rather than talent, is at the heart of any musical development. I share my expertise in how to practice well, varying your approach to make different connections rather than just repeating things - this also helps to keep practice interesting! I am also keen to help each student find their own voice and expression through music, tailoring lessons to each students needs and goals.

I have specialist knowledge of medieval, renaissance and baroque music, and can help students to develop skills in historical performance and ornamentation/improvisation.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

About Me

Daniel is a recorder and flute player with a passion for both early and contemporary music. “An exciting and versatile young recorder player, committed to pushing the boundaries of his instrument” (Erik Bosgraaf, 2021), Daniel is pursuing his own musical voice in myriad fields from renaissance consort music to contemporary music theatre productions. Daniel has just graduated from his Masters in recorder at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam for which he was awarded a scholarship from The Countess of Munster Musical Trust. Previously, he graduated from the Royal College of Music London with a First-Class Joint Honours Bachelor’s degree in Flute and Recorder.
Since 2019 Daniel has been a member of The Royal Wind Music, performing concerts across Europe and making appearances on Dutch and German TV and Radio. The group is a recorder double quintet and performs exciting new programs of renaissance music, completely from memory. Their latest programme is a celebration of the Dutch composer J. P. Sweelinck and will be premiered in October 2021. As a soloist, Daniel has researched and presented his own unique programs at the Open Recorder Days Amsterdam Fringe and in the Amsterdam concert series Les Goûts Réunis. He has also been selected as a finalist for the Moeck/SRP Recorder Competition, which will take place in November 2021.
In February 2020 together with Emily Bannister, Anastasia Terranova and Verena Barie, Daniel won Amsterdam’s Grachten Festival prize in the cross-over category for their music theatre performance that fused renaissance and electronic music, The Eternal Feminine. The performances are taking place in the fall of 2021 and are funded by the Amsterdam Fonds voor de Kunst. Daniel’s playing is also featured in the recently released blockbuster film, The Green Knight, by director David Lowery. With his recorder quintet Five Spice, Daniel has performed in the Utrecht Early Music Fringe, Leipzig International Chamber Music Academy and the Uitmarkt Festival in Amsterdam as well as a tour in Denmark and Austria. Daniel has participated in recorder masterclasses with Pierre Hamon, Maurice Steger, Michael Form, Dorothee Oberlinger, Walter van Hauwe, and Paul Leenhouts.

From Jazz to Classical: Saxophone and Piano lessons in Amsterdam
Jazz Lessons in Amsterdam. Don't wait anymore and start your new hobby! If you love music and you feel the inner urge of learning it, I can help you out. I can teach students from all the levels playing either saxophone or piano. From jazz style to classical. After years of studying and practicing, I've arrived to the conclusion that the best way to learn music is by transcribing and singing. Music is like language,so I start by teaching how to connect the voice with the instrument. In an playfull way, I will introduce you to harmony, teach you how to read music, compose your own tunes and improvise. Side by side with theory according to your musical taste and preferences. I've been learning music since I was 3 years old and recently I've graduated with a Master Degree at the Conservatorium Van Amsterdam. Previously, I've studied at ESMUC (Barcelona), Kunst Uni Graz (Graz), Temple University (Philadelphia). I'm a professional performer since 5 years ago and I've performed in several countries around the world.

Enrique
Piano (any style!), Improvisation and Music Theory lessons
Hey there! If you have been thinking for a while about learning to play, improvise and read music scores on the piano, then this is the sign to start! My name is Enrique and I come from Andalucía, Spain. I am a Classical Piano student at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and I would be pleased to be your teacher. It will be great to teach you how to play your favourite music on the piano, but also about its language, reading and writing, that is, the music theory, or even how to start improvising your own music. All of this is actually interconnected and it is interesting to combine them in teaching. I adapt to any age, level or taste (you may prefer classical, jazz, pop... everything is welcome!). Lessons can be taught in English or Spanish. Thanks for your attention! Hope to help you soon ;)

Private Music Lessons for Piano, Violin and Erhu (Chinese violin)
As a Cambridge University graduate in the Faculty of Education, I am delighted to have settled down in the Netherlands since September 2019. I started piano at the age of 5, and music has been an important part of my life ever since. Classically trained as a pianist and violinist, I picked up another instrument named Erhu (Chinese violin) and became a professional performer. I am experienced in teaching both children and adults, from different cultural backgrounds. Also, I have been actively involved in both Western and Chinese orchestra since high school. Thanks to my years of experience in being an orchestra member and soloist, I am familiar with orchestral music. As a humble music therapist, I am passionate about music and believe in the power of music. I trust that music is in everybody and I respect every student's individuality and thus tailor my teaching methods to develop my students' full potential. I started teaching in 2009 and most students put their trust in me when they first decided to learn an instrument. I also enjoy exploring the world of music with students with learning disabilities. I am proud to say, my students, aged from 5 to 60, are enthusiastic in playing the instrument they have chosen and keen to improve their skills following my advice. I adopt a flexible approach in teaching - I believe every student is unique and my job is to develop the strengths and improve the weaknesses. I put a lot of emphasis on a solid foundation in my teaching. For young children, I tend to use a more interactive approach to explain complicated music theories, yet strict in the fundamentals such as posture and rhythm. For adults, I am always happy to discuss with them my lesson plan and choose the best exercises and songs that suit their music interests and needs. For my students who would like to take exams, I am happy to tailor the lessons based on their progress. I believe in the quality of learning and understanding rather than the number of pieces that they learn. Many beginners and their parents have put their trusts in me and achieved distinction in their first ABRSM exam. I am fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese, and a native speaker of Cantonese Chinese. I am happy to travel and travel costs will be added on the top of the standard tuition fee. *Proof of qualifications avaliable upon requests.

Flute lessons for beginners to advanced, all ages are welcome!
Private lessons for beginners to advanced level of flute playing. All ages are welcome. I am a professionally trained teacher and flutist for almost two decades. My lessons are given in English, Spanish and (soon) Dutch. My teaching method is variable depending on the students' needs, but the goal is shared: to make a great musician and qualified flutist out of the pupil. I work on both technical and musical aspects from a (very) consciously prepared healthy and enjoyable perspective. Particular emphasis on having fun with the little ones! I pay special attention to creating a personalized education and experience for every one of my students. I also give some additional tools applicable to the flute playing which includes: Introduction to Yoga, Feldenkrais, Alexander Technique and Body & Mind. All the basic theory is taught too. I can teach in various places near or in the centre of Amsterdam, or, depending on the need, I can move to pretty much wherever in The Netherlands.

Dwarsfluit lessen voor alle leeftijden & niveau's!
Hallo daar! Iara

Seen Tung
Piano/Music theory/Composition & Arranging lessons tailored to your needs and wishes
Hello, this is Seen! I am a pianist, composer and arranger from Hong Kong, currently studying at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. I am offering piano and music theory lessons tailored to your needs and wishes. Perhaps you are an enthusiastic adult beginner, or you want to pick it up again after not touching the instrument for some time? Or perhaps you are looking for a teacher for your child? I have been giving music lessons for the past 9 years to students at different levels aging from 5 to 60. I understand that we all approach music in various ways and everyone needs different styles of guidance. I am looking forward to getting to know you and experiment with how I can help you along the way. Perhaps you want to play pieces from the classical repertoire? Or perhaps you want to acquire the skill of learning your favourite pop songs by ear, or learn to read lead sheets and chord symbols? Perhaps you want to learn to accompany yourself singing? Perhaps you want to learn improvisation over chord progressions? As a musician grew up with classical music training and later moved on to explore jazz and pop, I enjoy helping you to deepen your understanding about different styles and to have fun with playing! Perhaps you’ve always wanted to improve your piano technique, but get turned off by studies and scale practice? Perhaps you wish to acquire a stronger sense of rhythm or a more sophisticated control of sound? In my experience, advanced technique comes along with a tension-free body and mental space, and we can work on that together. I also find creating unique musical exercises that adapts to students’ needs makes the learning process more enjoyable. Perhaps you would love to integrate music into your daily life, but find it challenging to keep the momentum and interest in a long term? I try to structure our lessons so that students can see steady progress. I also understand that incorporating a habit can be a tricky part, so we can also develop study and practice plans together and explore ways to make your practice time more efficient. Perhaps you not only want to learn the instrument, but are also interested about the theories behind the music? Perhaps you want to learn some basic arranging skills and write for an ensemble that you play with? Perhaps you want to try composing your own music? As a composer and arranger, I would also love to share my experience on these subjects with you. Music is an enormous universe and there are always new territories to explore. I’m still a student on this journey, and I’m more than excited to share my experience and accompany you on your way!
