I am a London based music educator, working for many Music Hubs and Institutions across the city. My teaching experience is broad and deep: brass instruments, theory, music production, arranging and more; from primary schools to university lecturing. I also offer private lessons in my studio in Camden or online.

The trombone is a really nice instrument to play and to hear. I will help you to start play or to evolve in the instrument, playing with you, and giving you lessons. The lessons are preferably one to one regarding to the tuba lessons. About theory lessons they can be one to one, small groups, online, or maybe meeting at a park. I have been a professor in three professional institutions in my country for 8 years now and I design the lessons depending on the goals of each student. I have played classical music, balkan, traditional music from my country (Mexico), and even some jazz and pop music. Right now I am studying my MMus in Live Electronics at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.

I'm a Post-Graduate Laureat in Low Brass (Trombone and Early Trombone). To improve your musicality and get your life happier is my goal, so I can't wait to get in touch with you. In Italy I taught in 4 different schools of music, there I had the opportunity to gain a lot of experience with students of all ages and all levels. I have had many children pupils, who approached the trombone or another brass instrument for the first time, as many amateurs of all ages who needed a guide for their path, but also adults with a great knowledge of music, who wanted to perfect themselves and find inspiration to cultivate their passion. If you are approaching the Trombone for the first time, there are NO requirement, book your lesson and you will try the instrument at my place, then if you want to progress you will need to buy your own instrument. If you are an amateur or you already study in another school but you want to perfect yourself or you need any help for any issues, just come by and we will see together your level and what you need to improve. Many masterclasses all around Italy and abroad taught me that every student is different, and a teacher can change your life just by saying the right sentence, we will work together. I have several methods to study any technical issue of the trombone, and a lot of inspiring exercises, we will find together the books that fit you better. To have a proper education, I take care about ear training, singing, and of course breathing and body posture as well, I want you to feel good with your instrument and to approach to the music in a relax and funny way.

Classical - Jazz - Pop From the age of 7, I trained as a classical trumpet player, and then developed an interest in jazz at 13. I have a Bachelors in Classical music from London, and a Jazz Bachelors and Masters from the Netherlands. You can therefore feel confident that no matter what your interest may be (perhaps you don’t even know yourself yet), I can give you high quality training in your own interests. What to expect- Beginners For beginners, I take the time to let you get acquainted with the trumpet, learning repertoire, simple theory and technique, gradually moving to more advanced studies and incorporating jazz into the equation. Jazz Basics My jazz lessons start with the basics - learning simple music theory and harmony, the appropriate scales and getting a taste for the jazz language, common repertoire and the tradition. Challenge As you advance, we will explore more challenging rhythm, harmony and melody. Learning musical transcription (the process of writing down sounds on to paper) is crucial for development and also covered in lessons as well as mental-practise. For trumpet players the true key to success. Of course, my lessons are always friendly, relaxed and personal! Intermediate - Advanced My lessons consist of trumpet technique, i.e gaining the facility to be able to meet the demands of professional trumpet playing and the knowledge to deal with the daily struggles of what is essentially a very a demanding instrument. Breathing Embouchure This of course includes breathing, posture, embouchure, articulation, long tones, sound production, flexibility, finger dexterity, endurance, scales/arpeggios, sight-reading and ear training. It is important to develop everyday fundamental routines: keeping in shape, as well as devising formalised structures within trumpet practise. The often heard phrase goes - it's not how long you practise but how and what - which is incredibly relevant to trumpet players. Flexible and able to travel I live in the Hague and teach from my apartment, but am happy to travel to another location if it’s convenient! Home lessons in Delft may be arranged. About Laurie Born and raised in the colourful and vibrant seaside city of Brighton (UK), Laurie began playing the trumpet aged 7 and grew up playing in the local Brighton and London music scene. He studied classical music at Royal Holloway University of London where he graduated with honours and won the Dame Felicity Lott award for performance in 2014. Since then he has resided in the Netherlands playing and studying with many musicians from the Dutch and European jazz scene. In 2016 he graduated from Codarts Conservatory Cum Laude having studied formally under the Dutch jazz-master Jarmo Hoogendijk amongst others. In 2018 he graduated with a master’s degree from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam receiving the highest mark ever to be given by the department. As a band-leader his quartet received 3rd place at the Leiden Jazz Competition in 2016 and in the same year made an appearance at North Sea Jazz Festival. In 2018, his quintet was selected as finalists of both the Keep-an-Eye Jazz Awards and the prestigious Dutch Jazz Competition. To date he has made numerous appearances at jazz venues and festivals in and around the Netherlands and currently resides in The Hague (NL) teaching students, giving performances and making music with friends.

I am available for lessons in both tenor and bass trombone. I have played in professional orchestras in Scandinavia and Switzerland, as well as touring around Europe many times a year. I have also done my fair share of jazz playing, for example in the Swiss jazz orchestra. I have had excellent coaching and I am very excited to do teaching myself.

The one-hour chronological classes consist of step-out exercises to disconnect from the stress of the day, breathing, vocalization, vocal technique applied to the repertoire of your choice and also to some works that I will leave you as challenges so that you improve every day more . I have been working as a professional singer and singing teacher for more than five years in different schools and giving private classes, which led me to seek complementary knowledge such as the constructivist method and yoga, also obtaining certifications for them. I did it because I have realized that conservatories train excellent interpreters, but not teachers who know how to teach. Instead, finding your unique best approach to improve your skills will get you to the moon! For improving your tempo awareness, would you practice with a metronome or would you rather use a drumbeat sample? Your health is important! Body awareness and breathing techniques Not only wind players benefit from doing sport, acquiring good posture habits, and being aware of their breath. It helps everyone in every single aspect of their lives. A good breathing technique will let you play easily, run for a longer period of time, or sleep better at night. On the other hand, body posture awareness helps with productivity and saves money on the fysio. Life hacks that you cannot miss! Recording and producing Let's face it, we are in the 21st century and the possibilities of technology are endless in the audiovisual field. Ok but, how will my lessons look like? Breathing practice is one of the best ways to start warming up. It will take the first 5 minutes of your lesson and your body will be prepared to start playing. Then, we would go into working on your specific goals. Perhaps, we are practicing music that demands improvement on the higher register, maybe we are working out different scales for improvisation, or it might be the case that you want to discover a new genre and go deep into it. Reading music, ear training, phrasing, music theory, buzzing and embouchure position, articulations (legato, staccato, accents), dynamics... These are only an indication of what we might work on. The final minutes of your lesson will be the moment to relax. We can get creative, play some tunes together, improvise, or even talk about a specific topic like musicality, art, creativity, technique, theory, or the music industry for instance. In September 2021, I graduated a Masters degree in Innovation In Sound with Distinction, from dBs Sound & Music Institute, which has led me to work as a recording and live sound engineer with Eastone Recordings, a small Bristol-based studio and production company. I have taught music theory for 7 years, helping students to reach Grade 5 and above, enabling them to progress in their musicianship, and to go on to study music at university. I believe that theory is not only an incredibly important part of learning music, but can also be a fun way to engage with the different elements of music. Practical application of theory as well as purely theoretical learning is an essential way of solidifying the knowledge, and how I believe theory should be taught. Having studied Trombone, Piano and Music Theory I have intimate knowledge of the ABRSM Grades, and can offer tuition to help students achieve the grades they need. I also offer Music Technology, Studio Techniques and Composition tuition which is informed by my work as a professional recording engineer, and through my research into experimental and extended studio practice.
