Composition lessons are for anyone who wishes to compose music, for any instrument, emsemble and/or electronics music.
My teaching method combines various approaches and styles, supporting practice with theoretical knowledge, and most important developing creativity and helping the student in making their imagionary visions come real.
For each student a different palate of tools is offered, according to the student's musical wishes and ambitions.
I teach the basis of western-music composition - theory, harmony, counterpoint, score-reading, solfege, rhythm, analysis and more.
Further I suggest broad overview of world, jazz, pop, new/contemporary music, various styles in electronic music (popular and experimental), improvisatory compositions, graphic notation, text and game pieces, music for theater, film and dance and interdicsiplinary works which combine music with other art fields.

MarkusFLUTE/SAXOPHONE. Jazz and improvisation lessons in the centre of Amsterdam.
This class includes absolutely everything what the student is interested in terms of jazz and improvised music since the openness of Markus and thanks to the previous experience from CVA in terms of teaching and playing jazz in the Amsterdam Scene.
Markus follows a more open-environment learning atmosphere whilst keeping the traditional teaching methods in mind. Technique exercises and information about the improvised music are the 2 pillars of the lesson. Also, its good to mention that the lessons are not what you'd expect from a traditional lesson. We rarely use paper in the lesson and the most important aspect is not the eyes but the ears. Since improvisation doesn't use paper, why would we use it in the lesson?

Enjoy making Music!
It is essential for students to enjoy making music while facing the technical challenges that the instrument naturally presents. That’s why I always face technical problems starting from music. Without enjoyment, learning is much harder.
No Instrument yet?
I am very happy to you finding the suitable gear for your level and your budget! (trumpets, mouthpieces, bags, etc..)

Teaching has always been a big part of my musical experience and one of the main goals of my own musical education. I've always been focusing on the broadest and most organic way of learning music. Thanks to my classical studies, my jazz Bachelor at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and a Master of Music Education, I am able to tailor my lessons to fit the requirements of any student.

ThomasComposition, piano, trumpet, harmony, counterpoint, and music theory lessons and ensemble training and direction.
I am an Amsterdam based musician offering tutorials in piano, trumpet, cornet, harmony, counterpoint, theory, and other general music-y things in English! I’m also available to direct rehearsals and concerts.
Currently a masters composition student under Richard Ayres and Willem Jeths at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, I have a Bachelor of Music (Hons) Composition degree from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where I completed all of the harmony and counterpoint electives, and prior to this was accepted into Chetham’s School of Music as a joint principle study composer and trumpet player. I gained my ABRSM grade 8 piano at this time, after obtaining my grade 8 cornet 3 years prior. I have won multiple awards, including the BBC Proms Inspire Young Composers’ Competition in 2013, and my varied and diverse music has been played by ensembles such as the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, members of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Red Note Ensemble, and European Youth Brass Band; broadcast on radio and television both nationally in the UK and internationally; and performed for royalty and at events such as the BBC Proms and the Total BWF Badminton World Championships.
Furthermore, I am also passionate about conducting others works as well as my own, rehearsing ensembles of all standards, ages, and varieties, organising events, as well as tutoring – a former pupil gaining a place at a prestigious specialist music school in the UK before going on to study at a conservatoire. I have been described as clear and inspiring, being able to give students confidence in their work. “Tom kept me stimulated and inspired in moments when I would run out of ideas, and created structure and direction in moment when I felt unsure with what to do.” I also enjoy my work as a BBC Proms Inspire ambassador, which involves assisting at workshops, advising and mentoring young composers.
Please contact me to talk about your (child’s) musical goals and ambitions. I’m currently in the middle of changing it, therefore don’t want to post it online yet. I am able to travel to homes and offices and have a flexible schedule to meet your needs! I have also taught over Skype in the past, where there’s the option of screen sharing, making it possible to demonstrate things on screen.
Thank you for reading and I hope to hear from you soon!
