Music class for all levels. Singing, recorder and music theory

I enjoy teaching music to both adults and children. I have taught people that can already play an instrument or sing, but also people that know nothing about it and want to give it a try.
I like adapting my methods to the student and his/her interests. Music is for everyone and everyone has their own way to engage on it.

I have been trained in:
-Classical and Early Music Singing (current study. Conservatorium van Amsterdam)
-Recorder (Bachelor, Conservatorium van Amsterdam)
-Solfege
-Harmony on the keyboard
-Music notation

About Me

I am a Spanish mezzosoprano and recorder player based in Amsterdam.
I specialise in Classical and Early music, but I love other types of music as well (jazz, Spanish-South American folklore, free improvised music...). I like other performing arts (movement, storytelling...) and I like to include them in my work.

Teaching music is something that inspires me, not only something I do as a job. For me, helping someone discover their voice and musicality is one of the most fulfilling activities.

Education

-Bachelor in recorder with Erik Bosgraaf (Conservatorium van Amsterdam)
-Bachelor in voice with Xenia Meijer (current study in Conservatorium van Amsterdam)
-Masterclasses with teachers like: Michael Schneider, David Antich, Rebecca Steward, Malik Mezzadri, Harmen Fraanje, Margreet Honig, Adrián van der Spoel and more.

Experience / Qualifications

Irene has performed Early Music and Contemporary music in festivals like Gaudeamus Muziekweek, Amsterdam Fringe Festival and Utrecht Early Music Festival.

She performs with the Royal Wind Music, double consort recorder ensemble, as well as in several Contemporary Music projects such as “Koerikoeloem” by Miranda Driessen and “Over de beiaardier die in een klok veranderde” by Jorrit Tamminga.

She participated in Open Recorder Days Amsterdam 2012 and 2017, both times obtaining a prize in ensemble playing.

Irene has joined choirs conducted by Sigvards Klava (Meesters und Gezellen 2016), Rob Vermeulen and Adrian van der Spoel(Kurt Thomas Kursus). In 2017, she took part in the choreographed choir project Choreos (with Stephan Lutermann and Lars Scheibner).

Reviews (1)

Irene is a great teacher. Very patient and never running out of ideas to teach difficult things with very relatable examples or excercises.

Zara
Classical singing and piano lessons for all levels and ages
Dear parents and students, I am a professional singer and pianist from Hong Kong, having more than 10 years of experience in music teaching. I graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor degree in music, Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel with a Master degree in classical singing (cum laude) and also the Post-master degree in classical singing. I am currently an opera singer working with conductors and directors from houses and studios such as Lyric Opera Studio Weimar, Komische Oper Berlin and Royal Opera House. I am a holder of Licentiate Trinity College of London (LTCL) vocal and piano performance certificates, both with distinctions. Besides, I am a holder of ABRSM Grade 8 music theory certificate with merit. I have given singing and piano lessons to students ranging from 2 to 40 years of age. Very happily, all of them had obtained distinctions at their ABRSM exams, some of them also won first prize at competitions. However, I do not teach music because of this. Distinctions and prizes are bonuses, but most importantly, I hope my students can enjoy and understand music. For beginners, I focus very much on building basic techniques, but I also share my knowledge about music history and theory when they need. For more advanced students, I teach more about musicality and music presentation, alongside with basic techniques. Since I grow up at one of the best English schools in Hong Kong, I can communicate in English very fluently without accent. Besides English, Cantonese and Mandarin Chinese are my mother tongues. I can also speak some simple German. I am confident that I will provide my students the best learning experience.

Marco
Music Production and Theory: Everything you need to know.
My name is Marco, and I am an Italian composer and sound designer working and living in Amsterdam. I studied Classical and Experimental Composition at the Conservatory, and then Communication Sciences and Technologies, and Sound Design at the University. After that, I spent the last 8 years producing music and sounds for advertisement, short movies, tv shows, documentaries, theatre, art installations, and so on. This gave me a broad knowledge of how to write music in every different style, and how to do that fast. This class starts with my experience, but I really want the students to build their own personalized plan, choosing on which of these areas to focus on: -Film Scoring -Sound Design -Music Theory -Arranging for Orchestra -Solfège -Introduction to Piano -Introduction to Music Softwares (DAWs) and Plugins -Electronic Music and Beats Production If you need to take lessons at certain times excluded from my timetable feel free to contact me anyways and let's see what we can arrange. Hope to hear from you soon! Cheers :)

I have won prizes in both bassoon and composition, including the Royal Schools Music Club Anniversary Scholarship, the Bendat Family Foundation Composition Scholarship, the Royal Over-Seas League Arts Travel Scholarship, and the Catholic Arts Chapman Scholarship. I have also been part of a variety of ensembles, including the MAPLE wind quintet, Tura New Music's Breaking Out Ensemble, and orchestras in Australia. I have had the incredible opportunity to write and arrange for many ensembles with very different instrumental combinations such as Piñata Percussion, the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of St George's College, and Trinity College, Perth. As a teacher, I strive to develop students to become inspired by music and to always seek a deeper understanding and appreciate of music. Joana
Singing Lessons / Recorder (Blokfluit) lessons for all ages
I am a singer and recorder player, studying in the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. I can teach you recorder or singing and adapt to your tastes and needs. In both instruments, I focus as a teacher and performer, on a healthy, joyful and technically skilled way of playing and singing. With my students, I focus not only on the instrument sound production, but also on body posture, relaxation and organic movement. A happy, relaxed body produces a beautiful, natural and relaxed sound. What music style would you like to learn? Would you like to play folk music, to sing pop songs or walk through a more classical path? I have experience in different areas, having sang and played folk and jazz music and also studied in the Conservatorium for a long time. I can also help you with music theory, from the basic introduction to music to advanced solfeggi and rhythms. I graduated in Musicology and studied Music Pedagogy in Portugal before moving to Amsterdam. For little children I can also combine the playing of the instrument with more didactic activities mixed with body movement and dance! In the past I taught how to play and sing, from little children (4 years old) to adults with around 60 years old, in group sets and individual lessons. I can adapt to your needs and requests! And most of all, you will fall in love with music, all kinds of music and have loads of fun!
