From Jazz to Classical: Saxophone lessons in Amsterdam

Jazz Lessons in Amsterdam.
Don't wait anymore and start your new hobby!

If you love music and you feel the inner urge to learn it, I can help you out. I can teach students from all levels to play the saxophone. From jazz style to classical.

After years of studying and practicing, I've come to the conclusion that the best way to learn music is by transcribing and singing. Music is like language, so I start by teaching how to connect the voice with the instrument. In a playful way, I will introduce you to harmony, teach you how to read music, compose your own tunes, and improvise. Side by side with theory according to your musical taste and preferences.

I've been learning music since I was 3 years old and recently I've graduated with a Master's Degree at the Conservatorium Van Amsterdam. Previously, I studied at ESMUC (Barcelona), Kunst Uni Graz (Graz), and Temple University (Philadelphia). I've been a professional performer since 5 years ago and I've performed in several countries around the world.

About Me

My first encounter with music was when I was 3 years old. Between singing, playing and
finding out the keyword to enter my classroom, I've learnt about rhythm, songs and
chords. Back home, among my family, I grew up surrounded by musicians. My mother is
a piano player, my father a drummer, my uncle a guitar player and my grandfather was
a multi-instrumentalist. Music has been part of my life since I can remember. From piano
to drums and later on to sax, I've found my own voice.
Nowadays, under the same spirit and joy that I've experienced when I was little, I try to
teach my students how to find their own. I believe that no matter at what age you start
in order to study music, you need to be patient and find the playfulness of the
instrument. I often improvise a class according to the age and level of a student. I
develop a personalized method focused on the relationship voice – instrument. You
don’t need to know how to sing. The simple act of singing and memorizing a song helps
us to understand our body. Its rhythm, breathe and ability to listen, brings us the right
posture to embrace an instrument. Later on, as the student develops, I provide exercises
for technique building, scales and music theory that will be part of home studying. The
goal is to help the student to achieve a level of improvisation and fulfillment. For that
matter, I find it crucial that the person decides what kind of music they would like to
learn. I am very open minded to all kinds of music and I am always looking forward to
learn and discover new music.

To have an overall idea of how an hour class could look like:

- 10 minutes of warming up and technic (instrumental technic, hand positioning
and air/sound projection);
- 10 min of music theory (theory and sight reading);
- 10 min of ear training (relationship between notes and sounds);
- 25 min of learning a song (transcription and memorize);
- 5 to 10 min of reflection over the class.

Aside from teaching, I’ve performed at festivals and clubs around Europe and the
United States. I've recorded albums as a sideman and during the last 5 years I've been
working on my own project. Lucas Martínez Project started in Amsterdam and so far
held me to the finals of the Keep An Eye Jazz Competition (2018), Semifinal of the
Dutch Jazz Competition (2018), and made me able to win the Incentive Price at the
semifinals of the Keep An Eye Jazz Competition (2017). With this band and together
with the Fresh Sound New Talent Label, I've recorded my upcoming album End of a
Cycle and my previous one Lights & Shadows.

Come and enjoy the perks of becoming a musician.
Hopefully one day you will record your own sound!

Bass lessons for all levels: focus on the music you love
Hi! My name is Matteo, I'm a professional bassist from Brussels, currently based in Amsterdam. I perform and have performed with renowned musicians and bands from many different scenes and styles, bringing me to venues all over the world (USA, UK, Germany, Denmark, France, Romania, Portugal, Spain...). I have a deep passion for music ever since I started playing 16 years ago, and would like to share it with you! Bass is the best! And I want to help you uncover it's full potential. I believe the best way to learn music is to study what you love, and always work from a place of curiosity and passion. Therefore, we will always look together for ways of making the process the most enjoyable and tackle different topics through the music YOU love. The classes are tailored to each individual student: we find the best work flow for you, and adapt the lessons. If you need structure and a clear program, I can provide that; but if you prefer to keep it loose and see as we go, it's all good. All that matters if your continued motivation and progress. Among other things, we can focus on: -Basic technique on the instrument -Learning songs of your choice, with a method that will allow you to learn songs by yourself later on. -Learn about different styles: Pop, Rock, Funk, Soul, Metal, Jazz... -Develop your understanding of music through the instrument (scales, arpeggios...) -Creativity, and improvisation through the use of the material we have studied together -Ear training and music theory -Rhythm, all the way from basic to very advanced -Basic compositional techniques, or fun ways to start composing I have been teaching privately for the past 6 years, with very happy students. I can also teach online if it's better, I also have regular online students with whom we are making great progress. For the lesson, there is no need to bring an instrument: I can lend you one. Looking forward to meeting you!

Learn How to Play Trumpet Easily! (for all Ages and Levels)
HI! I am Lenart and I am currently a student at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. I have been playing the trumpet for more than 15 years and have experience in many different music genres like Jazz, Pop, Classical, Baroque. I graduated from the Academy of Music in Ljubljana. I used to do a lot of teaching (young to old) when I was still residing in Slovenia. My desired goal as a teacher is to show you an easy and fun way to master a new skill or some new aspects of it, but not to fill your head with unnecessary things that will make your progress hard and slow. I have studied with some of the biggest names of classical and jazz trumpet worldwide like: Omar Tomasoni, Miroslav Petkov, Reinhold Friedrich, Chris Colleti and many more.

Saxophone Lessons (Jazz/Classical/Pop) with an internationally touring and award-winning saxophonist
Whether you are just starting to play the saxophone, or are an experienced player looking to expand your knowledge, I can help you! My teaching approach is tailored to the student's needs and goals. Are you a prospective conservatory student preparing for your entrance exam? Or an amateur musician just looking to improve your saxophone playing? We can figure out the right lesson length, schedule, and study materials just for you. As a teacher I strongly believe in providing the student with solid fundamental skills - getting a nice sound, good posture, relaxed technique, etc. From there we can work on whatever the student is interested in, the #1 priority being nourishing their love for music! Besides working on the saxophone playing itself, I am also there to help the student develop their ear, musical intuition, sense of rhythm and melody, and discover new music to expand their horizons.

Saxophone lessons: Enjoy becoming an all-round musician (EN, NL, HB)
Enjoy becoming an independent & all-round musician!! My aim as a Saxophone & music teacher is to give you the ability to develop skills that will make you enjoy "music-making" and love exploring all kinds of songs/musical pieces. Also, I give you tools to be able to cooperate with other musicians. The methods I use are focused around goals that I create together with each individual student (and/or parents). Our goals are based on both the student's passion & musical desires together with the technical needs to make these desires sound! (control over the instrument, reading music notation, music theory, Improvisation, composition, ear-training and more). Music is a powerful language that everyone around the world can understand, but not all can speak yet... Music-making involves Joy, curiosity, self-expression and a feeling of being a part of something bigger than yourself! Practical Info: - Normally, lessons take place at my location in Amsterdam. (call to discuss other options) - I work with both kids (from age 8/9) and adults, (total) beginners, amateurs & semiprofessionals alike - I play & teach: Soprano, Alto, Tenor & Baritone Saxophones (Flute & Bass-Clarinet for beginners as well) ** FOR PARENTS ** - Music making teaches you about how to build long-lasting dedication & successful work ethics that can be implemented throughout life, in any filed! - Music teaches you how to express thoughts & feelings and can be important for a growth of a child. - Music is a rich lifestyle, and opening a child to that world is a great gift that a parent can give to his/her child.

Improvisation for beginners and intermediates (any instrument)
For many people improvisation is a scary word and having to improvise in a group or band is an alarming prospect. However, this really does not need to be the case. As long as you have a basic knowledge of how to play your instrument you will be able to improvise. Once you know the principle of how chords are formed you will soon be improvising with ease. If you play a keyboard instrument you will be able to improvise your own pieces and be able to entertain your friends at a moments notice. On the other hand if you play in a band or a group you will be well equipped to do a real 'jam' session. Whether you play a single line instrument (flute, saxophone, trumpet, violin etc.) or keyboard instruments, this class is for you.
