Trusted teacher: What do you love to listen to? How do you create music that expresses the music that has deeply influenced you? The "how do you create that" is where technique, or music theory, shapes what compels you. There are a variety of techniques because there are a variety of sound possibilities (jazz, rock, classical, etc.). "In order to create that" music in your head, the basics of music have to be learned: pitch and rhythmical relationships. The most basic examples of pitch relationships are melody and harmony. If my availability works, I will gladly take in anyone who desires to explore all the basics and beyond. I greatly hope that any student considering lessons will read all of the information provided about myself on Apprentus. I will not begin a lesson with any student who does not answer the first five questions. Now, I believe I've covered enough ground for potential students to understand what my lessons will be about. So for now... enjoy the sounds and Au revoir!

Wondering why take lessons with me? I've been playing guitar for 37 years now. I have played professionally over the last 33 years, including 25 with Cirque du Soleil. I am 100% bilingual. The guitar is my passion, my life. For me, teaching guitar is not work. It's a real pleasure! And finally (the most important point for me), over the years, I developed my own technique. My system has only ONE GOAL: PLAYING THE GUITAR! That means "we play a lot, and we learn the necessary theory. I teach 9 to 99 years old! I am a double graduate of Berklee College of Music, Boston, MA What is GuitarBloxx? It's a teaching method with ONE great goal: PLAYING THE GUITAR! What does that mean for you? This means that throughout the first few basic courses, the theory will be ONLY based on the game. "Hands on"! Do not just make notes! And yes, there are songs that are so easy to learn. From the first class, everything you learn will be based on a song that you learn at the same time! Fun songs to play (you can even pick from my list) AND learn at the same time. You will be able to show the quick results of your progress to your relatives and friends! I will also give you written notes (to do a little practice at home), and also "backing tracks" to immediately give you the feeling of playing in a group! All of this is included in my classes, and even more. Obviously, if you are intermediate or even advanced, the same principle applies, only the techniques taught and the songs that we learn differ. A little / a lot more difficulty, and with different goals. And what's even more cool is that as you move forward in the program, it's YOU who chooses the BLOXX that you want us to work together. In closing, you do not even have to own your own instrument. I have a ton of guitars of all styles that I rent to my students until they get theirs. And when they are ready to buy this first guitar, not only I offer to help them in their choice, but I also have a guitar store that offers the best prices. Classes are offered Monday to Sunday, at Samson Blvd in Laval, 2 minutes west of Highway 13. Here are the time slots available at this time. Note that the available time slots may change without notice. Thursday 19:30 - 22:30 Friday 9 pm - 10.30 pm Saturday 2.30 pm - 5.30 pm Sunday 2:30 pm - 5:30 pm

I have a degree in music composition. I have knowledge of both the instrument, as well as harmony, audioperceptive, counterpoint and orchestration. My goal is to be able to respond to the musical learning concerns of the student or group. This is why I propose a personalized approach. The project is suitable both for people who want to start in music through the guitar, and for those who already have some knowledge and want to develop that skill a little more. The idea is to work new material in class and then practice a little at home to reinforce what has been learned.
Trusted teacher: I am going to teach you how to sing in a healthy way. I work a lot of genres (opera, zarzuela, chanson, lied, musical pop,...) and I can teach you to accompany yourself on the piano. Also I give piano and musical theory lessons. Moreover, I train corageous people to pass successfully their auditions/exams. My classes are for people of all ages who want to learn and have a great experience! As a teacher, I am a 12 year-experienced woman who has worked with people from 3 to 88 years old in a wide range of musical areas. I have been teaching as in schools as in private-home lessons. My classes could be individuals or in group and they can be taken at your home or at mine, which is located in the vibrant borough of Plateau-Mont-Royal! If you feel interested about the vocal world and you want to begin, even if you think you can not do it, I encourage you to try! On the other hand, if you have experience and you want to reinforce your vocal technique, improve your interpretation and feel yourself more comfortable on the stage, it will be a big pleasure to work with you :) My methodology is unique for each person so it is shaped on the student needs. Generally, it is based on body awareness, breathing, vocal technique, declamation and interpretation. To achieve that, it is important to establish a trust-based relationship between us and to make you feel to be in a comfortable and free environment. I find this point essential to make music. You have to feel that you almost make no efforts to sing.

This is a hands-on surgical exploration into what great songs are and how to create them - from lyrics to music. Great songs are not merely popular songs, or catchy songs, or best-selling songs - great songs are enduring creations that stand the test of time, and which cross all boundaries of genre and style. In order to create them, we need a unique combination of skills and sensitivities - the ability to execute our ideas effectively on an accompaniment instrument of our choice, whether piano, guitar, organ, harp or other almost always polyphonic (multiple sounding) instruments - but equally the ability to craft poetic and compelling lyrics that are neither cliche nor predictable, and not least, the ability to create effective rhyme patterns without compromising either the original intent or flow of the song. In truth, creating a great song is as or more difficult than creating a great story, because it requires the meeting and melding of word and music in a mutually resonant way. In this quest, the class will enlighten beginning as well as seasoned songwriters on harmonic vocabularies available to them, basic musical resources such as rhythmic figures and variation techniques, basic and advanced song structures, from Bach to the Beatles to Bernstein, and perfecting the art of lyric-writing. Students will learn both fundamental notations so they may present their songs in a true musical format, as well as short cuts enabling them to sketch ideas in a simple form when in the heat of creation. Vocal ranges, transposing, vocal and instrumental ranges will be addressed so that students create songs capable of being sung by either professionals or amateurs.
Trusted teacher: Young, dynamic and experienced teacher. I help the student to enrich his musical knowledge. The course is based around the student. My goal is to succeed in inspiring young people to take an instrument and master it. I adapt to what the student wants to learn. If he or she wants to learn a specific song, I will modify the court around it.
I teach Old-Time fiddle, beginning and intermediate level. I prefer students who have some experience with fiddle, violin, or bowed string instruments, but I will accept students with no experience, too. To make the most of your learning experience, weekly, one-hour lessons are highly encouraged. I will teach you fiddle bowing techniques, cross tuning, low tuning, learning tunes from ear, jam etiquette, the social aspects of Old-Time music, as well as some history of the tunes and the source fiddlers. My specialty is cross-over students, especially those coming from a background in classical music. Can't get your violin to sound like a fiddle? I can help.

Trusted teacher: This course is for viola and violin students from the beginner through the high school level. My goal is for my students to foster a healthy and long-term relationship with their instrument. The course focuses on practicing and truly understanding technique, with an emphasis on listening. Weekly assignments tend to include technical exercises, scales, and classical pieces of the student's choice. Basic improvisation is also an interest of mine and, I find, a valuable experience for my string students. I believe repertoire is largely a matter of student taste. Students of mine have learned pieces in the Suzuki books and other classical repertoire volumes, but have also learned pop and fiddle songs according to their interest. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Violin Performance from the University of Puget Sound, where I graduated in 2015 before moving to Vienna to study privately for three years. I am currently in the Master of Viola Performance degree at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, where I study with Ásdís Valdimarsdottir. I have been teaching violin intermittently since 2009. While my musical education is classical, my performance interests are much wider. I have performed jazz and pop improv, and am currently exploring how hip hop can be implemented on the viola and violin.
