Mark - Berlin$45.36
Trusted teacher: Teaching is something I really enjoy. To impart knowledge to a student requires a level of understanding deeper than that of the ordinary performer, and I enjoy the challenge of expressing ideas in a personal way that is relevant to each student. To watch someone's love of music grow as a result of playing the piano is highly rewarding, and something I put a strong focus on. If you can learn to have fun at the piano and nurture your love of music it will become something truly life-affirming. ... Reviews from my students: "Mark is an incredibly gifted teacher and pianist. Being his student is always a pleasure, with a perfect balance of fun and discipline" "I’m really satisfied, by both your technical knowledge and teaching skills" "I absolutely love our lessons. I love it that you ask me how I am doing and adjust the lessons based on how I feel, that sometimes you don't push me too hard, but sometimes you do and I am grateful for this, that you have a certain trust in me and say that I will be able to play some pieces which gives me confidence. Lastly and most importantly, the myriad of thoughts that I always have in my head abandons me during our lessons, and this is such a fantastic feeling for which I am grateful too. Don't know what you could improve really" ... About my performing career: Mark is a pianist and composer from the UK, based in Berlin and working in the fields of jazz and improvised music. He is a Yamaha Jazz Scholar and Peter Whittingham Award winner and has performed his music and others at many prominent venues across Europe, including for BBC Radio 3 at the Late Night Proms. Mark works as a leader and sideman in diverse artistic projects internationally, notably his large ensemble A Moveable Feast, Book of Haikus, Hayden Prosser’s Tether, a freely improvised solo project and countless other collaborative settings across Europe. He has also performed classical works including Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time. Mark owes a great deal to the many extraordinary musicians and creative minds he was fortunate to encounter during his conservatoire studies in Berlin, Copenhagen, Paris, Amsterdam and Birmingham - John Taylor, Greg Cohen, Søren Kjærgaard and Harmen Fraanje to name just a few. PRESS: “Stupendously talented” “A talented newcomer” "Mark is an exceptionally gifted pianist and composer, and a remarkable improviser" "A new voice in jazz ... both expressive and innovative ... a musical vision that is quirky, yet positively original" “Ambition to match his talent ... a striking writer and orchestrator as well as a fine keyboard player" "A musician with a very bright future indeed" "Much has been written about Mark. All of it positive, all of it justified ... It is only a matter of time before he becomes a household name ... hearing Mark live should be a priority" "Hugely talented ... technically gifted ... One of the real emerging talents of the UK jazz scene" "Mark has increasingly been making waves with his singular and adventurous approach to music-making" "A very great and mature talent"
