So many Westerners have hard times understanding the mindset of the average Moroccans, everyday habits, the rationale behind old customs and traditions, what's safe and what's not, what's taboo and what's not, what's funny and what's not, what's religious and what's not, especially that Morocco is historically a rich mixture of many cultures, with the typicality of combining the old and modern at the same time. I agree it's the heck of a challenge!! However, you can forge your own master-key now to a much better and wise social experience in North Africa, being it for marketing, anthropologist, or mere touristic reasons. You can definitely rely on someone like me to make such discovery about the people of this beautiful landscape, as I was born and raised here, loved and learned the English language, and was living in the USA for quite a long time. So, call me either your young or big brother in Morocco (I'm 46). We can possibly adopt a person-to-person approach in our journey (I'm located around Rabat, the capital).
