In order to learn a new language or improve your language skills, the key is to practice it and to get more familiar with the language by hearing and speaking it as often as possible. Therefore, my approach to teaching someone a foreign language is mainly through conversation. I usually chose a theme or a specific "real life situation" (job interview, going to the supermarket, answering the phone, etc.), in order to engage a discussion and to make the student talk as much as possible. I really want to encourage the learner to dare speaking, and not to be afraid of making mistakes. My main purpose is to see the learners improve their language skills by gaining confidence, which is mainly adquired by practicing orally, through conversation. It obviously implies learning new vocabulary, and improving their accent, which I believe can be achieved quite naturally thanks to oral practice. I am convinced - and I have seen it by the past - that with motivation and discipline, efforts can me remarkable !
