I specialise in teaching journalism and communication skills. I look at how news is reported, the theories behind news construction and consumption, how to find stories, how to write effectively for different media and how to sell the stories. I look at short news stories, features, specialised journalism and backgrounders. I also look at public relations (PR) and how that fits into the area of journalism. Classes are mainly practical and there is ample support to develop journalism skills and to think about how journalism fits into today's world, taking into consideration print media as well as broadcasting and online outlets, not forgetting social media.
