Trusted teacher: How many people in the world speak German as their mother tongue? Around 130 million people speak German as their mother tongue, or as their second language. German is the most widely spoken mother tongue in the European Union and is the official language in seven countries. There are 7.5 million people in 42 countries who are part of a German-speaking minority. How many people have already learned German as a foreign language? 289 million! It is the total number of people around the world who have learned German at some point, according to a calculation by the Germanist Ulrich Ammon. Another question is, to what extent they have done it. Currently, 15.4 million people around the world learn German as a foreign language, 90 percent are schoolchildren and the remaining 10 percent are adults. How many words are there in the German language? More than you might think. German learners soon learn that two nouns combined make up a new word. This makes it difficult to count the total number. In 2013, Berlin philologists estimated a total of 5.3 million German words. In 2017, the editors of the Duden, the standard work of German spelling, calculated that today's German has almost 23 million words (in its basic forms alone). This result is based on a gigantic digital collection of texts from a total of 40,000 fiction and non-fiction books. However, the latest edition of the Duden contains only 145,000 entries. And a normal speaker uses only 12,000 to 16,000 words. What words are the most common? „Der, die, das“: Specific articles, which all German students know so well, take first place. They are followed by "in" and "and". Which word has the most letters? In the Duden it is: "Aufmerksamkeitsdefizit-Hyperaktivitätsstörung" (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), with 44 letters. Why was the International Mother Language Day created? The UN declared February 21 the International Mother Language Day, because almost half of the 6,000 existing languages around the world are in danger of extinction. German is not one of them, it is one of the ten most widely spoken languages. But in Germany there are regional languages dominated by fewer and fewer people: North Frisian and East Frisian are especially threatened languages, according to the UNESCO Atlas of the World's Languages in Danger. In class, we will tackle grammar as daily as drinking water or eating during the day. My work materials include flashcards, textbooks, web pages, podcasts, German movies and series, music and literary books.

Trusted teacher: I am a German native speaker and general language enthusiast. Besides German, I speak English, Swedish, Spanish, French and Italian. Having learned 6 languages myself, I am 100% convinced that I will successfully teach you German(in a fun and relaxed manner)! Therefore, I offer a money-back guarantee: Should you not be satisfied with the results of a course with me, I will reimburse you! I have been teaching since 2018 and am currently one of the most-reviewed teachers on this platform. I encourage you to pause here and have a look at my reviews. I am confident that you too will have a similar view after having had some classes with me. On top of teaching here on Apprentus, I have taught offline group classes for the Volksuniversiteit The Hague (A Volksuniversiteit (litt. folk university) is an institute for non-formal adult education in the Netherlands). I also taught for and underwent training with Berlitz, which is one of, if not THE largest language school in the world, operating in over 70 countries and 500+ locations. I am 33 years old, have an honours degree from Leiden University, The Hague, am calm, encouraging, and, most importantly, PATIENT. My main objective in classes is to make the student feel relaxed and at ease. I encourage you to speak without fear of making mistakes. In fact, I celebrate making mistakes. "Why?", you may ask. Well, making mistakes means that you are leaving your comfort zone. You are trying something that you are not already skilled at. You don't choose the easy path! People who never make mistakes are stagnant. Therefore, making mistakes should be CELEBRATED instead of shunned! So, good on you for mispronouncing "Nachmittag (Afternoon)", or using the wrong grammar when making a sentence! Here, let me help you get it right this time! :) Do you already have German knowledge? No problem! Instead of building the basics, we can design classes that meet your personal needs and preferences. We can write essays together, you can hold presentations about topics of your interests or topics that I provide, we can discuss current events, hold debates, you can write news-paper article summaries, or we deep dive into advanced grammar. Whatever it is that you enjoy and need: We can do it together. All my classes combine speaking, listening & grammar exercises in interaction with me. Unless you're a very advanced student, we will work with learning materials created by some of the best publishers for language learning in Germany. These materials serve as a red thread for our course that introduces new words, grammar, and exercises in a good pace and interesting manner which keeps you engaged and motivated. Furthermore, I show you German food, music and places. On top of that, I introduce you to the best technological tools (homepages and applications) to boost your language learning and take it to the next level! Another important factor for me is having a personal connection. Unless you prefer to "stick to business", which is fine as well, we typically start our classes by talking about how the weekend or preceding weekdays have been. I don't see my students as a resource to be extracted, but as people for whom I develop a genuine interest. Over the course of time, we both know what is going on in our respective lives and update each other about small or big life events. Having taught many students for multiple years, I can gladly say that I have made real friends thanks to our classes, some of which I even have met in real life. I am extremely confident that you very soon will have the same success that I have had in learning languages! So what are you waiting for? Get in touch now to book a first lesson in which we can get to know each other so that I can learn about you, your needs and wishes, which will allow us to design the optimal course for you. See you soon! Bis bald! Sebastian

Trusted teacher: THE PUPIL This announcement is aimed at both pupils and adults wishing to acquire the German language. I offer tailor-made individual German seminars for levels A1 (beginner) to C2 (perfect mastery). My goal is to make my student independent as quickly as possible. THE METHOD Contrary to popular belief, German is a very tame language. You are certainly familiar with the language courses at school. You are given lists to learn by heart and you are asked to do exercises completely unrelated to the reality of a speaker. We explain grammar to you by confusing French grammar and German grammar. This is why no one manages to express themselves in German having undergone this kind of method which has proven for a century that it does not work. With me, my student has a second chance thanks to intelligent theory and pragmatic methodology. Indeed, I am currently writing a book on the acquisition of foreign languages. THE TEACHER I have 5 years of experience teaching German and an average rating of 5/5. German is my mother tongue, with no particular accent. I master French as if it were a mother tongue. I am fluent in English and Portuguese and have an intermediate level in Latin as well as some basics of Greek. My personal linguistic goal at the moment is to master Latin fluently orally. To maximize the quality of the courses, the sessions take place by video call in combination with Google Drive: - individual tailor-made course - interactive text document - interactive whiteboard - photos or scans can be imported - readable writing - instant written feedback during speaking - very flexible schedule - no time-consuming trips If you are interested, do not hesitate to contact me to arrange an appointment or to ask me your questions. I look forward to meeting you.

Trusted teacher: University graduate in German language and literature (Master of Letters in German with specialization in medieval languages and literature) with a solid experience, gives private German lessons for all levels. Lessons adapted to the needs of the student. They aim to consolidate notions, fill in gaps, prepare for exams (maturity, compulsory school leaving certificates, entrance exams to gymnasiums, university, Bachelor level and Goethe Zertifikat up to C1) and/or learn the language. For school supports: It is above all a long-term job. That's why, I take the time to "learn how to learn" in an efficient way: every exercise is explained in detail, which can make its execution slower. Quality takes precedence over quantity in order to achieve optimal long-term results. Students bring their own course material (notebooks, books, audio CDs, dictionaries, assessments, etc.). Another important point: in order for my help to be beneficial, it is necessary for the student to provide regular personal work between lessons. It is essentially a question of rereading notes, redoing exercises similar to those carried out together or even advancing in the learning of vocabulary. For conversation classes: Topics are based on interests and / or specific needs for exam preparation. I give special importance to pronunciation, fluency and vocabulary. I usually correct at the end of a conversation exercise with detailed feedback, this to avoid blocking and work on fluidity. Depending on the level of the students and / or their expectations (preparation exams / assessments / desire for improvement for example), I work on the choice of appropriate words, grammatical accuracy, the ability to formulate more or less complex sentences. For exam preparations: The courses offer to acquire solid tools to learn how to write, to comment on literary texts and a methodology to work on the oral comprehension. The student will have to bring his own booklet of exam preparations available in all bookstores. For the Gothe Institute examinations, the Cornlesen exam books are particularly suitable. The other alternative would be to download AND PRINT before the beginning of the course an examination copy of GOETHE INSTITUT available on the site of the institute itself. For the oral comprehension: work from visual audio views downloaded from the DEUTSCHE WELLE website, which offer various recordings adapted to all levels, with a very concrete approach. The student acquires long-term fluency not only in oral comprehension, but also enriches his basic vocabulary through exercises. I am also working on the oral tests of the Goethe Institute to familiarize with oral. For the work of the written expression: I begin by explaining in the first lesson some methodological tools to acquire writing skills. The student has the opportunity to start writing during the course or do a writing exercise on duty and give it to me to correct (send by email or at the beginning of the next lesson). The corrections are explained in detail. In addition, at the time of booking, the student can send me a draft copy before the lesson so that I can meet his needs even more quickly. Apart from my presence with the student, any course involves a preparation time before and after the lesson, especially for the work that I correct. My goal is to design an individualized course, so I take the time to write detailed comments on corrected work or tips to ensure maximum success for everyone. In addition, each student can contact me at any time outside the course by email if necessary. Feel free to contact me for more information.

Sebastian
I am having Swedish lessons with Sebastian now for 2,5 months since I must get to a certain language level for my new job. I was looking around for someone who could support my own learning strategy to accomplish the best result in 4-5 months. I had an extremely hard time finding someone who stood open for this idea, until I spoke with Sebastian. He immediately supported my wishes, knowing that there are different types of learning methods. During the process so far, he encourages me to speak as much Swedish as possible. By using different ways of learning, each lesson so far contained a little surprise that helped me to stay focused. Sebastian is reliable, patient and stays enthusiastic although I can ask difficult questions sometimes. He gives direct feedback on the work I am doing in a nice manner, but he stays also open to feedback on his own teaching methods and skills. This all makes my learning process and experience efficient, keeps me enthusiastic and curious to learn more. In addition, for me it was also important to have flexibility in the planning due to my work schedule. So far, Sebastian has been very flexible. We never had a week that it was not possible to find a date and time that suited both of us. I will continue my learning experience with Sebastian the coming months, but I hope that you will also give him your trust and choose him to become your teacher!

Khalil
I recommend Khalil without a doubt to anyone looking to improve his/her German level in both writing and speaking. He is a very professional, structured and knowledgeable teacher. He was able to immediately evaluate my level of German during the very first lesson and adjust the teaching methodology and materials accordingly. I am truly impressed with his patience and dedication towards teaching the proper German pronunciation with all its complexities and difficulties as well as the proper rules when it comes to grammar and language. We also had lessons using Skype which is also a good option for those who have a limited amount of spare time or are too far apart from the teacher. It is obvious that Khalil loves what he is doing and is willing to put all his effort into his passion. I wholeheartedly recommend Khalil for anyone wanting to learn the language.
