Trusted teacher
I appreciate you considering me as an accounting mentor to contribute toward your academic success. I have served both in industry & in public practice of accounting. As a licensed CPA, I enjoy tutoring both accounting & non-accounting undergraduate students and those seeking advanced degrees, such as the MBA. I have dedicated myself to the learning process by helping others. My method of tutoring is to approach each student and inquire which method may best facilitate their style of learning? Do you want to first attempt the accounting question, then allow me to suggest the next logical step? Or perhaps you prefer me to demonstrate how I calculate my answers using an Excel spreadsheet & screen-share my work? Perhaps your method only needs fine tuning with occasional insight; on the other hand, you may want to witness first-hand how a seasoned accounting professional approaches it. During our time together, I’ll attach my spreadsheet with all my notes for your downloading & review. Let’s plan to approach each topic in a manner which best accomplishes your goals, answering all your questions, instilling confidence & enthusiasm in a dry subject, and explaining accounting theory when it's not so obvious. I have prepared a multi-lesson package for new accounting students discussing & unraveling the importance & relevance of accounting, as well as removing the mystery from accounting. I developed this multi-lesson series for a parent who wanted their student to become intimately familiar with accounting before university classes began. I have revised it to become both a necessary and handy primer for the non-accounting major. It is my perennial favorite to teach both first-year accounting students & non-accounting majors – at the request of both the student or parent!
The class involves my demonstrating how to execute many Excel special functions. Such as linking information from one spreadsheet tab to another tab; creating V-Look ups, H-Look ups, Pivot Tables, Pivot Charts, Nested If's, Sumif's, "If/Then", “If/And” scenarios among many others. Included in the lesson is an interactive spreadsheet which contains actual working formulas with step-by-step instructions for easy implementation. You will see working, functioning examples of all the Excel functions I teach & explain during the lecture. Excel is one of my specialties. As an experienced CPA who has had both individual and corporate clients, I have constructed both simple to very complex spreadsheets – plus I was always ready to explain how they functioned to my employer, my co-workers, my tax clients, and even auditors!
