Blair began violin at age 6, studying under a number of world-class teachers including Sebastian Muller, Prof. Yair Kless, Michael Malmgreen, Milan Vitek, Soon-Mi Chung, Mauricio Fuks and Detlef Hahn. Attending the Junior Royal Northern College of Music, he also developed his abilities across a range of studies, pursuing both classical and jazz piano, conducting and composition. Receiving a BMus (Hons) from the Royal Northern College of Music, Blair led ensembles including RNCM String Orchestra, Session Orchestra and was a founding member of the UnHeard Hybrid Orchestra and John Phillips Quartet. With a strong passion for both contemporary and classical repertoire, I prioritise creating a supportive environment where you can confidently explore your musical creativity. Yammy
Private Music Lessons for Piano, Violin and Erhu (Chinese violin)
As a Cambridge University graduate in the Faculty of Education, I am delighted to have settled down in the Netherlands since September 2019. I started piano at the age of 5, and music has been an important part of my life ever since. Classically trained as a violinist, I picked up another instrument named Erhu (Chinese violin) and became a professional performer. I am experienced in teaching both children and adults, from different cultural backgrounds. Also, I have been actively involved in both Western and Chinese orchestra since high school. Thanks to my years of experience in being an orchestra member and soloist, I am also familiar with orchestral music. As a humble music therapist, I am passionate about music and believe in the power of music. I trust that music is in everybody and I respect every student's individuality and thus tailor my teaching methods to develop my students' full potential. I started teaching in 2009 and most students put their trust in me when they first decided to learn an instrument. I also enjoy exploring the world of music with students with learning disabilities. I am proud to say, my students, aged from 5 to 60, are enthusiastic in playing the instrument they have chosen and keen to improve their skills following my advice. I adopt a flexible approach in teaching - I believe every student is unique and my job is to develop the strengths and improve the weaknesses. I put a lot of emphasis on a solid foundation in my teaching. For young children, I tend to use a more interactive approach to explain complicated music theories, yet strict in the fundamentals such as posture and rhythm. For adults, I am always happy to discuss with them my lesson plan and choose the best exercises and songs that suit their music interests and needs. For my students who would like to take exams, I am happy to tailor the lessons based on their progress. I believe in the quality of learning and understanding rather than the number of pieces that they learn. Many beginners and their parents have put their trusts in me and achieved distinction in their first ABRSM exam. I am fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese, and a native speaker of Cantonese Chinese. I am happy to travel and travel costs will be added on the top of the standard tuition fee. *Proof of qualifications avaliable upon requests.

Amanda
Private violin lessons available for children or adults (beginners to advanced levels)
Amanda started studying the violin from age 4 with various teachers from the Sydney Conservatorium (incorporating influences from Suzuki and Alexander methods) and obtained a distinction in Licentiate of Violin Performance from the Australian Music Examination Board. In addition, she has performed in orchestral projects across Australia, Asia and Europe (including but not limited to the Australian Youth Orchestra, The Philharmonic Orchestra Singapore and the Hong Kong Orchestra) and also enjoys curating chamber music projects as well as improvising with pop and theatre groups. Amanda works very closely with her students to design a learning approach that works for both teacher and student, depending on various factors including but not limited to the student's musical background, technique and their commitment to learning. She can guide absolute beginners (children/adults) and/or people who stopped playing for a time and would now like to reconnect with the instrument. Nothing beats the feeling of making a beautiful sound on an instrument like the violin! It's important to know if a teacher or instrument is right for you :) Thus, all students can have a 50% discount for their first trial lesson/consultation. Amanda runs a studio/venue in Amsterdam (2 tram stops from Central) where she also conducts her lessons.

Violin teacher giving violin/music theory lessons in Amsterdam
My violin lessons are shaped in relation to the student's age, goals and interests. I have experience in teaching to children as well as adults and I like the student to have fun while learning such a wonderful thing as playing music. If you are a beginner I'll start with the basic theory, but always in combination with practical approach on the instrument. I'm mostly working with classical music, but I'm also into other genres and I'm very open to help you in any way I can. I can teach in english and in Italian (working on the dutch!) and I can't provide the violin, but I can give some suggestions about where and how to find it. Please contact me if interested!

Francisca
Violin and Viola lessons for all different ages and levels!
Are you into music? Would you like to know how to play an instrument, maybe violin or viola?? That’s a very good choice! I’m Francisca, from Portugal, and I’m taking my bachelor in the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. I started my music lessons when I was still a baby, going to music for babies lessons! Later, when I was three years old I was very interested in playing the violin and at six years old decided to change to viola! Having the opportunity to share my passion for music with someone it is something very grateful for me!!

Fiachra
Violin (or viola) lessons from an experienced and knowledgeable teacher
Greetings! I am a graduate of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. I also completed a Diploma in Music Education and Performance at the Royal Irish Academy of Music before coming to The Netherlands. I have had lots of experience teaching in schools and privately, and I get so much joy teaching people and helping them learn an instrument. My main goal as a teacher is to help students find their passion and love for music and for playing an instrument. I am also very practical in my approach to teaching, always trying to make things as clear as possible for each and every student to understand. I have plenty of experience teaching people of all ages. I also have a good knowledge of individual personalities and temperament which helps me to tailor the lesson to suit you individually. When teaching young children, I find that using various different games with and without the instrument helps a lot with their understanding and development. This resonates well with their impressive abilities to play for many hours every day - something which I think is very important for young children to make the most of while they have it. My understanding of the lessons is that every student should come out with the best feeling of wanting to improve their playing, and I always try to motivate every student in whichever way works best for them. I am also very open to using different approaches when it is not working for the student, and I am known to listen very well to feedback like this. I am flexible with the styles of music I teach and have experience in many different genres. If you need some ideas, together we can find the music that suits you best. The majority of students who start out do so on the violin, and some change to viola some time later. Some students who begin their musical journey on the violin go on to play not only viola but other stringed instruments such as cello and double bass if they grow away from the violin at any stage - so choosing violin in the beginning will certainly give you the most options.

I can teach classical and pop music, improvisation, and help you practice orchestra and chamber music excerpts. Whether you're into classical music, pop, folk, or rock, I've got the perfect plan for you, focusing on both technique and musicality. Alejandro
Violin lessons for beginners to advanced, & music theory lessons.
Private lessons for beginners to advanced level of violin playing. All ages are welcome. I am a professionally trained teacher and violinist for almost two decades. My lessons are given in English, Spanish and (soon) Dutch and French. My teaching method is variable depending on the students' needs, but the goal is shared: to make a great musician and qualified violinist out of the pupil. I work on both technical and musical aspects from a (very) consciously prepared healthy and enjoyable perspective. Particular emphasis on having fun with the little ones! I pay special attention to creating a personalized education and experience for every one of my students. I also give some additional tools applicable to the violin playing which includes: Introduction to Yoga, Feldenkrais, Alexander Technique and Body & Mind. All the basic theory is taught too. Occasionally, there are student concerts and collaborations with other teachers. (These may include some teachers from the Sweelinck Academy or the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, and more). From among the required tools for my lessons are: a violin and a bow, score and books purchases when necessary, and, from time to time, meetings with the parents. On occasion, I use digital tools like phone/tablet apps. I can teach in various places near or in the centre of Amsterdam, or, depending on the need, I can move to pretty much wherever in The Netherlands. About the homework, I send it to the students on a weekly basis and encourage them to participate on competitions and summer music courses. As always, this is conditional on the pupil's stage.

Mathilde
Violin, piano, and music theory lessons for all levels and ages
My name is Mathilde, I am a French violinist, pianist, harpsichordist, producer and composer. I have graduated from the world’s great institutions such as the Royal College of Music London, Manhattan School of Music New-York, Brussels Royal Conservatory, and Paris-Sorbonne University (in musicology). I have been performing concerts around the world in the most prestigious concert halls including the Châtelet Theatre and Seine Musicale (Paris), the National Opera House (Oman) and La Scala (Milan), as well as many other venues in Europe, US, China, Middle-East. During this period of time, I had been playing in the Orchestra Academy of La Scala in Milan for 2 years, and I am currently playing at the Metropole Orkest in Amsterdam. With the experiences I gained over the years - including the teaching experience in the Conservatory of Cambrai (France) - I became an expert in teaching violin and keyboards as well as music theory, including writing and reading scores. I have been teaching to the different age groups and different levels of technical backgrounds (beginner or advanced). I can easily adapt myself to the level of each student to create a synchronicity and help them pursue their goals and wishes. I am there to help them as a teacher and a music coach for their musical career. I can combine different practices and teach basic techniques in repertoire that matches the personality of the student (from classical to contemporary, pop, rock and more). Based on the teaching experiences I have, I can consider myself as a teacher with patience, motivating style and an open mind. Happy to provide references from my previous students from Amsterdam / Paris / Milan if requested. Next to my technical teaching skills, I am also actively involving in various musical projects. I have recently performed for major TV shows in Paris: Le Grand Échiquier (France 2), Variations (France Télévisions, Culturbox), and I am currently making my first classical / electronic album in Amsterdam.
