Singing Lessons / Recorder (Blokfluit) Lessons for all ages

I am a singer and recorder player, studying in the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. I can teach you recorder or singing and adapt to your tastes and needs.

In both instruments, I focus as a teacher and performer, on a healthy, joyful and technically skilled way of playing and singing. With my students, I focus not only on the instrument sound production, but also on body posture, relaxation and organic movement. A happy, relaxed body produces a beautiful, natural and relaxed sound.

What music style would you like to learn?
Would you like to play folk music, to sing pop songs or walk through a more classical path?
I have experience in different areas, having sang and played folk and jazz music and also studied in the Conservatorium for a long time.

I can also help you with music theory, from the basic introduction to music to advanced solfeggi and rhythms. I graduated in Musicology and studied Music Pedagogy in Portugal before moving to Amsterdam.
For little children I can also combine the playing of the instrument with more didactic activities mixed with body movement and dance!

In the past I taught how to play and sing, from little children (4 years old) to adults with around 60 years old, in group sets and individual lessons. I can adapt to your needs and requests!

And most of all, you will fall in love with music, all kinds of music and have loads of fun!

About Me

I am Joana, from Portugal. I love music, dance, writing and relaxing in nature.
I have been doing music for more than 10 years now. I am a singer, recorder player and clarinetist. I also have some curiosity about frame drums and like to play it to relax.

I love music in general, which means that in a day I could be listening to Bach, then Mumford and Sons, then Epica, then Ella Fitzgerald, then Debussy, then Sweden folk music, then old ladies singing songs from Portugal. I believe music serves to express our deepest emotions and to enjoy life in a smoother and more meaningful way. This is what I search in all my musical projects and what I aim with my playing.

I also love teaching and by doing that I feel often at the most comfortable place of my self. My mother is a teacher and I always watched and learnt from her since I was a little kid. How to wonder children with the beauty of knowledge! From as soon as 16 years old I started teaching music to children. I have taught music initiation for children from 4-10 years old, private lessons for children, teenagers and adults, and I conducted a children's choir and an adult's choir while being still in Portugal. Since I moved to the Netherlands this side has been a bit erased, due to language barriers and because I needed to focus on my studies. But now it is the time to start doing it again! Looking forward to see you!

Classical Guitar Lessons from Conservatorium-Trained Teacher
Hi, I’m Andrea! I’m a professional classical guitar performer and educator from Sydney, Australia. I have been developing my music teaching business for over 8 years, through which I teach a wide range of styles, levels, and ages. Lessons are specifically tailored to meet the needs of each student, whether the focus is on classical guitar performance, chords, pop/rock, jazz/blues, or Spanish-style fingerpicking. Music theory, composition, songwriting, improvisation, sight-reading, and preparation for high school exams or University auditions are all options that can be incorporated into lessons. I have plenty of experience with young children and teenagers as well as adults, from complete beginners to advanced players. My teaching philosophy is holistic in that I strive to help my students become well-rounded musicians with a range of listening, reading, improvisation, and analytical skills, while of course carefully choosing repertoire that will cater to the student’s taste as well as their abilities. Pop/rock guitar, blues and jazz improvisation are also options as well as classical training.

Violin lessons with a unique twist! Get to know your instrument better through improvisation and other fun exercises
Playing the violin is not just about learning and practicing endless scales. With an instrument you can also get to know yourself better and develop a special relationship with the music and the world around you. We will definitely do a lot of exercises and learn a good technique, but I also find it important that you start as soon as possible to find yourself with the instrument. This is done through free improvisation sessions where you can discover new sounds and with learning repertoire (which should not only be classic, we can also learn your favorite songs). Let's explore the colorful world of music and sounds together!
