I am currently doing a jazz master at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, after obtaining my classical bachelor at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague. I have been playing cello for 19 years. Over the years I played in various settings: chamber music (small ensembles like trios, quartet), bands (new music), solo and orchestras such as the Nationaal Jeugdorkest and Jong Metropole (national youth jazz orchestra). I love to play classical music but also some jazz, funk or pop! I like to play with people, create music together, improvise... And I hope this is something I can also pass on to my students! Since 6 years I am teaching all kind of people: all ages, all level, in different languages, individual or in groups... So don't be afraid to have a try! I can teach in english and french, and if your level is not fluent we will always find a way to communicate! I teach in The Hague, Amsterdam or online and I can come to your place to teach! Je m'appelle Elsa, je suis française, j'ai 24 ans et je suis actuellement en master de jazz au Conservatorium van Amsterdam après avoir obtenu un bachelor classique au Conservatoire Royal de La Haye. Ca fait 19 ans que je joue du violoncelle. Au fil des années j'ai joué dans beaucoup de contextes différents: musique de chambre, groupes, solo et orchestre (notament NJO et Jong Metropole). J'adore jouer de la musique classique mais aussi du jazz, funk ou pop. J'aime jouer avec d'autre personnes, créer de la musique ensemble, improviser... J'espère que c'est quelque chose que je peux aussi transmettre à mes élèves! J'enseigne la musique depuis 6 ans à toute sorte de personnes: tout les âges, tout les niveaux, en anglais et français... I treat every student as an individual, and I adapt my approach accordingly - whether making music is your hobby or you have rather serious plans with it. Depending on what you aim for, I'll choose nice pieces/songs and interesting exercises. I always care about leaving my students with the necessary tools for practice on their own when I'm not around to guide them. You'll learn a stable intonation, and develop your rhythmical sense, musical interpretation, good posture, and apparatus that works for you individually. Together we can go not only for classical but also pop, rock or film music. Trusted teacher: My name is Carla Peña and I come from Barcelona. Since I was a child, music has played an important role in my life. I started learning music when I was 4 years old and cello when at the age of 6. I discovered my love for music and that is what I share with my students. I have around 15 pupils of all levels and ages and I teach at my own studio (De Constant Rebecquestraat 3) or at your place! If you are in The Hague area and you want to learn the cello or improve your playing, you are welcome to do lessons with me! FIRST LESSON: The first lesson consists of getting to know each other. This is essential to choose the best teaching approach. All the students are unique, that is why I always choose the method that adapts better to your needs. Then, we elaborate a personal plan, depending on your level, expectations, practice time, and taste. TECHNIQUE: Learning the proper technique of the instrument is very important to avoid injuries and to be able to express ourselves and perform our musical ideas in a successful way. That is why we learn nice songs in different styles, depending on your taste (from classical to jazz, film music, pop, etc.) and we combine it with cello method books with progressive exercises to improve the cello knowledge. In the case of young beginners, we also play cello games during the lesson to make the learning experience dynamic and fun! Children can lose attention and get bored very quickly! Playing together is an essential part of enjoying music. Therefore, the last part of the lesson always consists of playing cello duets and having fun! ABOUT ME: I studied my Bachelor in Conservatori Superior del Liceu in Barcelona, with professor Amparo Lacruz. Then, I decided to continue my studies at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague in the class of Michel Strauss and Jan-Ype Nota. During my studies in The Hague, I did a teaching internship at the Royal Conservatory as a part of their Minor in Music Education. I also taught in several Music Schools during my studies in Spain. Currently, I teach private students in The Hague and I created a cultural center in The Hague called Pandora Studio. I play regularly in two chamber music ensembles: Trio Jakob and Azalaïs Quartet.

Gala
My first set of lessons were really great and I will definitely take more. I came in as a beginner and in every lesson Gala helped me make meaningful progress step by step. She is also very encouraging, motivating and playful during the lessons. Even if at times you just practice fundamental motions without using note sheets, if she's not actively giving feedback she will improvise to play along with you. Learning and playing with her always ends up being fun.

We had Elsa in for a lesson as my son's usual cello teacher was not feeling well. Elsa was prompt in responding, punctual and most importantly, taught my son effectively. We are very happy with her and will not hesitate to call on her the next time we need her assistance again.
