Private Piano Lessons: Classical and Jazz, Pop Performance/Theory

The lessons will delve into both the technical and musical aspects of piano playing, theory, reading music, harmony, ear training, technique, pedagogy and more. My aim is to equip students to understand different music styles and continue their musical journey independently. As Thelonious Monk said, the piano ain’t got no wrong notes.

Note: I'm passionate about traversing genres since I have studied both jazz and classical to a high level, making this class perfect for creative pianists and composers. Trinity/ABRSM curriculum upto Grade 8, can also be optionally included. Teaching effective practice methods is a priority, ensuring students progress confidently and without leaning on me. Please note, I only teach in person to maintain high standards of guidance in technique. This is not possible via video conferencing.

Currently, my students are between 14 and 44 years old— it’s never too late to learn to play an instrument. I look forward to your requests and have only one vacant spot remaining in my roster for Spring/Summer 2024! Book now.

About Me

Music: Yuvraj started playing the piano at age 11. He had obtained a distinction and high merit in Grades 7 and 8 of the Trinity Guildhall examinations by the age of 17. He furthered his studies at Berklee College of Music, and attended their international school, Conservatori Liceu, in Barcelona, where he trained under Spanish pianist Marco Mezquida Mateos. He is currently pursuing an ATCL from Trinity College London and wishes to reconcile his love for jazz and classical music in his own compositions. Yuvraj has performed multiple solo and group recitals. His influences range from Maria Joâo Pires and Bill Evans to Wynton Marsalis and Red Hot Chilli Peppers. He has 5 years + of teaching experience.

Yuvraj is a great teacher with a wealth of experience and wisdom to share. I found our lessons to be a great enhancement for my piano learning and I always look forward to them. I would highly recommend anybody to consider working with him!
Yuvraj is a great teacher, for the first lesson we figured out together my current level and we set up a plan for the next lessons, I also enjoyed the exercices that he gave me. In 2 month so far my technique has improved a lot. Juvraj has a remarkable ability to adapt their teaching style to suit individual learning preferences. As an intermediate level student with aspiration to learn different styles, I can say that the diverse range of techniques and musical genres that we discuss during the lessons keep the experience engaging and enriching. I also appreciate the thoughtfulness behind each lesson as he knows how to pick pieces tailored to my goals.
Yuvraj is a wonderful teacher! I've been studying piano for half a year with him, and the progress never stops. He teaches everything that you need to be a pianist, including the technique, classical theory, jazz theory, as well as how to find good new songs. Within the few months that I've had him, he quickly took me from having zero practical music knowledge to being able to read and play Trinity grade 3 songs on my own. Yuvraj always tries to make piano something fun and enjoyable, rather than just another annoying thing to grind all the time. This is the guy for those who want to learn with a relaxed, slow and steady attitude. Even better if you're down to challenge yourself with new, unconventional music that you might not expect. While I don't really have anything to compare him to, I am very happy learning piano with Yuvraj.
Really nice lesson, Yuvraj is a patient and clear teacher!
This writing module is based on a pedagogy that has a sharp focus on writing as practice and craft, but in a practical and experiential work environment. Rigorous training in the processes of writing and editing will accompany one-on-one guidance from the Senior Editors and mentors including myself, and involve rewriting and studying real submissions across fiction, humour, commentary, poetry and more. Our curriculum has been developed to provide an exhaustive dive into the nitty-gritties of wielding the written word. The objective is simple: to play on your strengths as a writer or editor and help you find your distinctive voice. This is a competitive and exclusive programme, and we only select 5 applicants for each six-week session. What’s special about WriteBeyond is its ability to give you on-ground experience of working at a living, breathing literary magazine. ALMA MAGAZINE is distinctive in its diversity of genres and writing styles. For those of you who wonder how exactly all that comes together, this is a singular opportunity to work alongside a diverse team of editors, artists, designers and writers.

Eyal
Piano, Music Production, Song Writing, and Music Theory
Eyal has taught hundreds of students over the past 15 years, both guitar and piano next to music theory and composition. Besides his formal music education (a bachelor's in composition, a teaching degree from the music academy in Jerusalem, and a master's in composition from Codarts, Rotterdam), Eyal has acquired experience in a wide range of various musical styles, including Rock, Blues, Jazz, classical music, electronic music, and contemporary music, on which he bases his rich approach which can be adjusted to every student separately. Solos, chords, improvisations, heavy distortion or acoustic guitar, playing at a party or jumping on stages, reading notes, or playing by ear. Maybe you know exactly what you want, and maybe you are not sure. In Eyal's view, the job of the teacher is to help you find that out, and guide you through your process. Johann Sebastian Bach or John Lennon? Sergei Rachmaninoff or Freddie Mercury? Regina Spektor? Nina Simone? Maybe Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart? Complex harmonies or simple melodies? Classical pieces or modern tunes? The only right answer is what you find interesting.

Danai
Private piano lessons, music theory, solfège, composition
I am teaching composition, piano, theory/harmony, & ear-training. I graduated from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam as a contemporary composer. I am very open to the stylistic choices of the students and adapt the lesson to fit their particular needs or interests. When it comes to composition, I'm coaching anyone who needs advice as to how to write their own music, how to develop their compositional tools, song-writing skills, how to translate conceptual ideas into practical material. This also applies to children, who might want to get the basics of making their own song, either on an instrument or on the computer. My approach to teaching piano is highly influenced by my composition studies, both in stylistic diversity and in pedagogical methods. I find it important to teach piano in an overall way, one that incorporates ear-training but also theory together with playing. This way i find that the lesson becomes much more stimulating, and it also becomes much more easy to learn. I have experience teaching adults but also young kids between 4-15 years old. I believe it is never late to start learning music and that learning to make music is firstly a fun and then a challenging adventure.

Solfège & Hearing Training - Music Theory Preparation Courses
Solfège is one of these indispensable tools that contributes to the development of musical hearing. With that a basis can be formed for the general musical understanding. Through my role as a student assistant of various theory subjects (including solfège) at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, I have had the opportunity to teach students with many different ages and backgrounds. My approach: • The lessons are always in line with the environment and the theoretical knowledge that the student already has. • Creative thinking is used in the lessons. This is done, for example, by improvising melodies or coming up with a second voice based on feeling. • I also encourage critical thinking and listening. I do this by not giving too much pre-chewed information, but by an experiential approach. • In practice I use different solfège methods (tonic sol-fa, or using numbers in a scale). My experience has shown that not every system is ideal for everyone. That is why I am flexible in my approach and I will always coordinate this on my students.

Guitar/Songwriting/Composition/Music Theory Lessons
I am a graduate of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, with several years of experience as a teacher as well as a performer, and professional composer and arranger. I am passionate about music education and can offer tuition in guitar, music theory, songwriting and composition for all ages and abilities. In guitar lessons, I want to be able to give students the tools they need to be able to express themselves fluently on the instrument. We will work on technique and essential theory, but there will also be a big focus on playing songs and learning tunes, which I believe is essential to understanding the instrument. I am also able to offer lessons in music theory, from beginner level to advanced jazz and classical theory. If you need assistance preparing for an entrance exam or theory exam, or if you just want to expand your general knowledge, then I am able to help. Through the study and analysis of theory in the context of musical compositions, I am able to give you a solid understanding of how music works on a theoretical level, widening your understanding of music as a whole. If you want you expand your creative instincts, I can also offer composition and songwriting lessons. Whether you want to perform as a singer songwriter, arrange for big band, or write music for symphony orchestra, I can offer tuition which will give you the tools necessary to improve in these areas. I teach from home and I am also able to teach over Skype/Zoom. Feel free to get in touch if you are interested. Thanks!

Piano lessons - music theory and harmony - for any level
I teach for all levels, from children starting from zero to students who want to prepare certifications at the Conservatories, passing through amateurs or simply curious of any age. I firmly believe in the importance of knowing how to read music and this is exactly what I teach first, obviously adapting the method to the age of my students: knowing how to read music is knowing one more language, which, if learned well, won’t ever be forgotten (like riding a bicycle!) and it is an invaluable wealth. Starting from that point I teach the position of the hand, the arm and the whole body at the piano, the fundamentals of the piano technique (giving great importance to the percussive movement of the finger and the distribution of weight), the understanding of musical language, the expression of the personality through the keyboard, the search for touch and knowledge of piano repertoire.

Apollonia Maria
Beginner to Advanced Lessons for Guitar Players for all ages
After dedicating 14 years to mastering the guitar, I've developed a comprehensive understanding of guitar playing, encompassing both foundational techniques and advanced music theory. In these lessons, I'll be sharing the wealth of knowledge I've accumulated over this extensive period of learning. I will be covering a broad range of guitar techniques, including fingerpicking, strumming techniques, major and minor chords, power chords, barre chords, riffs, scales, finger warm-ups, practising any song of your choice, string bending, pull-offs, hammer-ons, harmonics, strumming patterns, and slides. All are provided with diagrams etc. For music theory, I will begin by covering the fundamentals, including notes, strings, and the musical 12-note chromatic scale alphabet on the guitar. As students progress, we will delve into more advanced topics such as tones, semitones, chord progressions, circle of fifths, scale formulas and chord terminology. Additionally, we will explore concepts like consonance and dissonance and pitch practice to develop relative pitch. (You have to be born with perfect pitch but you can learn relative pitch with practise!) Then advancing to jazz theory, we'll explore; jazz scale formulas, jazz chord progressions, swing techniques, major and minor 7th chords, major and minor 9th chords, dominant, augmented, half-diminished, diminished, sus2 and sus4 chords. And then jazz scales and the art of re-harmonising a song (changing the chords to jazz chords). All music theory will be intertwined with guitar practice as both can't be done without the other! One observation I've made while learning guitar through lessons is that information is often doled out incrementally, making it feel like a breadcrumb trail. Guitar knowledge and skills seem to be closely guarded and usually gatekept unless actively sought out. I strongly believe that the extensive knowledge I've acquired over 14 years of playing should be fruitfully shared in a more comprehensive and accessible manner, of course while being tailored to the pace of the students. In essence, I'm convinced that the depth of my understanding I've gained could be effectively conveyed and learnt within a two-year timeframe without including the time it takes to master the skill with practice, of course, I'd like to make it easier for people to learn the guitar and the theory behind it. I have also graduated with a distinction for my Music Performance and Production UAL Level 3 Course and have experience teaching guitar in London and Bristol before. The lessons will be taught in English so practising your English with me is also a plus, a foundational knowledge of English is required to take the lessons.

The trumpet, learn to play it by making music from the first class.
The trumpet: its correct technical execution and the interpretation of popular and academic universal repertoires, is available to everyone regardless of their age. We will build a logical sequence of studies that will help develop the technical aspects. And we will address repertoires according to the age and taste of the student. we will draw a path with short, medium and long term goals. we will build a technical routine and healthy habits to progress correctly. In addition, we will select musical pieces by mutual agreement to mature the technical development hand in hand with musical growth. I am a professional trumpeter, I have participated in symphony orchestras, wind bands, big band, and small chamber and jazz ensembles. I have extensive experience teaching children, youth and adults. For me it is very important to make music from the first lesson, because there must be a balance between technical practice and its application in small melodies or musical pieces. No matter the musical genre, we will always find a repertoire according to the level and interest of each student. If you already know how to play and you need to perfect a piece or prepare a recital or audition, you can count on my experience and accompaniment as well.
