About Me

Below you'll find my official bio, but remember everyone is starting from somewhere. I started music when I was 11 at my public school in Texas. I didn't know anything about music at the time. I didn't know how much this would end up changing my life. Without the clarinet, I would not live my dream in Paris!

Education

Dîplome de concertiste - École Normale de Musique de Paris - with Patrick Messina
Master of Interpretation (Clarinet) University of Michigan (United States)
Bachelor of Music Education - 'Baylor University (USA)

Experience / Qualifications

Hailed for his “smooth acrobatic sound, fierce finesse” and “dynamic virtuoso” (Millbrook Independent - New York), clarinetist Elias has performed internationally across the Americas and Europe. From concertos by Carl Maria von Weber live on United States National Public Radio (NPR's "From the Top") and New York's WQXR to solo Jewish klezmer music at the United States Embassy in Paris and with the Calliopée Ensemble, Elias has also performed at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York. Originally from Dallas, Texas (United States), Elias came from a Mexican family of guitarists and singers.

Elias has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician in festivals and series around the world, including the American Wind Symphony Orchestra (USA), Le Domaine Forget (Quebec), Orchestra of the Americas, the Banff Center (Canada), the Grafenegg Festival (Austria), the Bard Music Festival (New York), Bard Music Colombia (Colombia), the Orchester de la Francophonie (Montreal) and the Vermont Mozart Festival (United States). He has performed alongside artists Christopher O 'Riley and Mark O' Connor, and was previously a member of The Orchestra Now, a New York-based ensemble with which he toured and recorded on Hyperion Records.

As an educator, Elias has taught at various institutions in the United States, Canada and Colombia, among which stands out his role as Associate Director of Symphony Bands for the Independent School District in Mesquite, Texas. His teachers include Pavel Vinnitsky and Pascual Martínez-Forteza of the New York Philharmonic and the New York Metropolitan Opera, and Patrick Messina (solo clarinet) and Jean-Marc Volta (bass clarinet) of the Orchester National de France.

Elias holds a BA in Music Education from Baylor University (Waco, Texas) and an MA and Diploma in Clarinet Performance from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor), Bard College (New York) and of the Normal School of Music in Paris. He is the recipient of the Harriet Hale Woolley Fellowship 2018-2019, which granted him an artist residency at the Fondation des Etats-Unis in Paris.
