Overview of objectives

Do you want you or your child to want to play outside of school hours (without needing to remind them)?
Do you want your child to effectively develop their violin skills in a fun way that suits them?
Do you want your child to have a lifelong love/interest in music?

Biography
I am a qualified teacher with over fifteen years of teaching experience. I am a professional musician with a passion for music. I run my own international teaching business, Scottish Whispers, and have taught everyone from 3 to 75 to play the violin. I ran the Huntly Summer School for a decade and am now a visiting professor at the Birmingham Conservatory.

My lessons are based on up-to-date research on effective practice. Many of these techniques I use in my daily routine.

My classes are guided and based on what suits the student. I find things (music, ideas, experiences) that interest that particular person and develop a way of learning around them. I find a way for them to be independent so that they know what to do outside of school hours.

I use a range of activities which include: creating harmony; scales and how to make them enjoyable and beneficial; composition (traditional and contemporary); song writing; how to make the technique work for the student (and be as enjoyable); trustworthy performance skills and accessible and engaging auditory training.

Pleasure is the key when learning and progressing in an instrument: for a student to want to practice, to want to play an instrument, he must have a real love of music and the only way to to do so is to have fun and enjoy it.

Reviews (1)

Morag helped me to identify my priorities in English language; she asked me about my goals in the short and middle term and made a series of activities to work my listening, writting and speaking. It was very rewarding
