Piano lessons: What about learning how to play the piano?

Piano is the instrument used by the romantics to make their most beautiful music, but also by the most experimental and modern composers to create their craziest music wonders. Isn't it a great instrument to play?

With more than 5 years of experience teaching in music schools and 15 years as a private piano teacher, I developed an efficient and "fun-but-efficient" way to teach how to play the instrument. Every student is different, which means the way to play and learn shall be different, making every single lesson special and rewarding.

I also offer the possibility of teaching in groups: if you want to know more about this option.

Hope to see you soon in our class!

About Me

My name is Iago, I’m a professional pianist, composer and conductor. Also a teacher with 15+ years of experience. Once I finished my piano performing bachelor, I moved to the Netherlands to study a master in music composition and some further training in conducting. I just can’t stop my curiosity for learning more and more about music!

For the last few years, I’ve been teaching mainly in Amsterdam and online. Until last summer 2022, I was also the Piano Teacher and Head of Education in the Historic Conservatory of Santiago de Compostela.

My way of teaching changes a lot depending on the student’s interests and skills. That’s important to keep in mind! I’ve taught students with a “professional-goal” mind who got accepted in the universities they wanted, but also spent countless times making music games, so my students could learn and improve their skills by having plenty of fun.

I give my lessons a humanist approach: we’ll learn about piano, about composition… But also about all other topics that might have an impact in our learning process (from music theory to taking care of our health).

Fantastic teacher, explains things in easy-to-understand language and tailors lessons to my goals.
It’s time to write those musical ideas you have in mind! I’m Iago: pianist, composer, and conductor. With more than 9 years of teaching experience, I can help you, your children, family or friends to learn how to write all the musical ideas you have and want to share. About me? I’m a professional composer (experimental music and opera) with a master's degree from the Conservatorium Maastricht under the guidance of Vykintas Baltakas. I’m also a piano performer specialized in contemporary music (piano and electronic music, why not?), and I’m also running my own multimedia ópera company in the Netherlands. I’ve been teaching for 9 years, which allowed me to notice how important it is to adapt all the lessons to the students. Teaching music is my passion, so my teaching way is not just superficial. About the lessons? The lessons are planned to be as practical as possible and always adapted to the music taste of every student. The development of the lessons goes through different musical elements: harmony, structure, rhythm, new technologies, etc. The main core of this course is being able to write several pieces with different instruments and tools.
Leading a group of musicians. Conducting is a necessary part of every performance with an orchestra, a wind band, opera performances, a choir and even smaller groups. Would you like to grab the baton? I'm a specialist in the conducting of Contemporary Music, which requires a deep knowledge of the music and how it works. I can teach any interested student how to conduct any kind of group: do you want to become the conductor of your local wind band? Are you planning to start your own small orchestra and you want to know how to conduct it? We can work together on that, so you will learn, gradually, how to deal with all the required things to lead any group: the musical part itself, but also the group psychology, management, etc. Join this class and enjoy of making music!

Piano Lessons - A 360-degree Learning Experience. Fun and Efficient!
Holding a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Music degree from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, I nurture your child's talent and polish your piano skills effectively. Most importantly, my lessons are fun! As both a pianist and composer, I can help you not only develop your pianist skills but also gain a comprehensive understanding from the composer's perspective. Here are things I can do for you 😉 1. Set up your learning plan with a well-constructed syllabus to achieve your short-term/long-term piano goals, including a one-time coaching lesson. 2. Polish up your piano skills. 3. Develop a 360-degree understanding of music and examine works from the perspectives of a Pianist, a composer, and an interpreter. 4. Help you with basic music theory, harmony and counterpoint, form analysis, ear training, Piano literature, and music history. 5. Expand your piano repertoire. 6. Design an efficient Piano practice method that suits you. 7. Complimentary unique music pieces/ arrangements tailored to suit your music level. 🎁 As for the little ones, everything above will be taught with a very fun, engaging teaching method. ✨ I enjoy teaching music and customizing music works tailored to suit students' needs. For the little ones, I also use my method book "The Enchanted Bells: Marco Piccolo's Musical Adventure," which is now available in most major online bookstores worldwide. Students of all ages are welcome, and the subjects range from piano playing to music Theory, Harmony, Counterpoint, Ear Training, Form and Analysis, as well as Music Appreciation. As a composer, I enjoy using unique harmonies to create a distinct 'April Color.' The style varies from classical to jazz, and my compositions are now available to stream on all major platforms (Spotify, YouTube, Apple Music, Amazon Music, etc.) * Please feel free to book an appointment to get a personalized learning plan.

Daniel
Guitar lessons for Complete Beginners & Intermediate levels
Hi I'm Daniel, an enthusiastic and dedicated guitar teacher who loves meeting his students' own goals. By combining my 6 years of experience in teaching guitar with my students' own interests, I help my students make progress in the most engaging way possible. I provide my students with a grounding in the basics of technique and theory to make sure they develop good habits, enabling them to make use of the near-infinite resources online when they want to play and learn more in their free time and later in life. I believe a good teacher is one who makes their students able to go on independently and with joy and passion for their instrument. Learn your favourite songs, demystify music theory, learn how songs are written (and get help writing your own), learn to play songs by ear, explore a range of genres... I look forward to helping you with your own musical journey!

Patrícia
Singing lessons in different styles: Classical, Jazz, Pop!
My teaching method meets the student's needs. Above all, I try to make people keep their passion and taste for music and my main goal is to make music or art a pleasure and not a sacrifice. I motivate students, showing them the benefits of exploring their unique talents, but also not hiding the need for continuous work and with some obstacles, sometimes difficult, to overcome. I let the students bring their own musical choices and, over time, I also recommend material that I think may be useful for a faster, simpler, and more efficient evolution. As I said, I focus on the pleasure of singing but also on the technique that allows us to achieve the best results with less effort. I hope that my way of teaching will work with you, but we always have to adapt to the needs and personalities of each one. Come and try it!

Composition Lesson for children and adults in Amstrdam
Composition lessons are for anyone who wishes to compose music, for any instrument, emsemble and/or electronics music. My teaching method combines various approaches and styles, supporting practice with theoretical knowledge, and most important developing creativity and helping the student in making their imagionary visions come real. For each student a different palate of tools is offered, according to the student's musical wishes and ambitions. I teach the basis of western-music composition - theory, harmony, counterpoint, score-reading, solfege, rhythm, analysis and more. Further I suggest broad overview of world, jazz, pop, new/contemporary music, various styles in electronic music (popular and experimental), improvisatory compositions, graphic notation, text and game pieces, music for theater, film and dance and interdicsiplinary works which combine music with other art fields.

Piano lessons - music theory and harmony - for any level
I teach for all levels, from children starting from zero to students who want to prepare certifications at the Conservatories, passing through amateurs or simply curious of any age. I firmly believe in the importance of knowing how to read music and this is exactly what I teach first, obviously adapting the method to the age of my students: knowing how to read music is knowing one more language, which, if learned well, won’t ever be forgotten (like riding a bicycle!) and it is an invaluable wealth. Starting from that point I teach the position of the hand, the arm and the whole body at the piano, the fundamentals of the piano technique (giving great importance to the percussive movement of the finger and the distribution of weight), the understanding of musical language, the expression of the personality through the keyboard, the search for touch and knowledge of piano repertoire.

Cheslava
Piano and Singing tutor with 5 years experience and professional education
From my childhood I have been studying music and art: sang in choir and solo, played piano, painted, studied music history and literature, solfeggio. Later in college I have also learned choir conducting, had ensemble and choir singing lessons, cultural studies. During last year in university I had pedagogy practice at university and at private art school (where I worked as a music tutor before the war - piano, voice). I truly enjoyed working with students. They all were different age (8 - 40+ years old) and level. But all were very interesting and work was pleasant. My education was very various: my core subjects were conducting, choir, voice, piano. So it allowed me to work with children, teens and adults with quite wide range of interests and needs: some students needed/wanted to learn particular composition(s), sometimes pop songs arrangements, some were interested in “introduction” to the music, some wanted to renew skills they gained in their childhood and continue their journey to the music world. In addition I prepared presentations (which contained information about cultural and historical background and musical and character/art analysis). So after graduation from choir conducting faculty (which allowed me to deepen my knowledge in many important compatible branches) I concentrated on studying classical singing and piano, expanded my cultural studies and analysis knowledge, practiced solfeggio and harmony.

Federica
Jazz/Pop/Classical Piano/Voice and Music lessons for all ages
Hi, I'm Federica, I am Italian, and I am a Jazz Piano player and singer. I studied at the Royal Conservatory of the Hague. I'm doing my Master's at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. I give Jazz/Pop/Classical Piano lessons but my main goal is to try to give the student a general understanding of the music to approach every style and to have fun with music! I love to work with children, I like to teach them good values like patience, self-confidence, trust, communication, and collaboration, all through music. That's what I learn every day by studying music and that's what I would like to transfer to my students. I've been told that If you have music in your life, you can't be a bad person. I believe in it. I offer live and online lessons: Piano Vocals Ear Training Technique Improvisation Repertoire Music Theory
