My music theory course is an enriching and deep experience that seeks to explore the fundamentals of music. During the sessions, students analyze elements such as rhythm, harmony, melody and musical structure to understand how compositions are constructed. I'm Martin! I've studied Guitar Performance major at Berklee College of Music. I have previously taught students ranging from children to elders, in various guitar styles including jazz, rock and pop. I worked as a Core Music Tutor at Berklee College of Music, where I provided individual, hourly tutoring sessions. During the class time I assisted the students in completing coursework and projects in subjects like Fundamentals of Ear Training, Music Fundamentals, Music Application and Theory, Harmony 2-4, Ear Training 1-4, Solfege 1-2, Arranging 1-2, Tonal Harmony and Composition 1-2, Art of Counterpoint, and Conducting 1. During this job I got certified by the College Reading and Learning Association through trainings offered in the program. I would describe my teaching philosophy as organic and holistic. I believe that with unlimited content at their fingertips, people today tend to be overwhelmed by the amount of information, whereas I consider it should be a mix between knowledge and perceptual approach. I understand the student needs its own time to digest knowledge and incorporate it.

The guitar is an infinite universe, it has given identity to many genres in the world and has served throughout life to accompany human beings mainly in their singing. In this course you will be able to learn different musical languages of your interest, from the history of different styles, technique, repertoire, to a deep exploration that allows us to create and interpret with great creativity. In my musical studies I have delved into musical styles such as jazz, Colombian music, especially from the plains, the Andean region and the Colombian Pacific, Latin American music, funk, blues, rock, RNB, pop, among many other styles that I will help you explore. .

The classes are adapted to the needs and interests of the student. In an initial session we review both previous experience with the instrument and music, as well as what we want to learn. The idea is to find the most educational, entertaining and practical way in which each student can generate a healthy and stimulating relationship with the instrument. The classes behave based on the interests and level of the student. The idea is to have fun and set objectives and goals to work on to simultaneously advance in technique and musicality when playing the drums. At the same time, there is constant work on posture, breathing and relaxation to improve the interpretation of the instrument and avoid long-term injuries. Usually the class is divided into two sections, the first with technical work to achieve greater ease and comfort when performing, exercises are given to improve musical rhythmic reading applied to the drums, coordination, speed, rudiments, drum exercises and different hits where we will experiment with timbres. The second part is practical; We will perform a repertoire of interest, we will practice rhythms, grooves, applying breaks and fills of different styles. All this aimed at working on musicality and intuition that allows developing a rhythmic "ear", improvising and even composing and arranging one's own songs.
