During my high school education in Portugal, I found myself unchallenged and unmotivated by the math curriculum. Seven years later, as a mathematician at the beginning of my academic career, I think I'm an ideal tutor for students in a similar position—interested in math but not quite finding what they need at school. I'm also available to help more advanced students (from university or beyond) who need advice and direction on university-level topics. Additionally, I'm happy to help adults who need help restarting their mathematical education or filling in gaps in their understanding. I'm interested in talking about anything mathematical, from linear inequalities to Hilbert's Nullstellensatz. I'm also familiar with computer science, both in theory and practice. I can easily take the reins and "lecture" on most topics but would prefer to steer towards whatever the student finds interesting. I strongly believe that learning math is an active, creative process.

I have made music for various major theater performances and my installations have also been shown in various places in the Netherlands. In addition to my personal work, I have been teaching music production and programming at the HKU for a year now. In this series of lessons we will cover various parts of electronic music, but the teaching material also depends very much on the interests and ambitions of the student. The lessons I teach are completely focused on the desire of the student. If a student is very interested in the technical aspects of sound design or programming, that will be the focus. If a student is interested in producing numbers in a program like Logic, then we will focus on this. The first lesson will therefore mainly be an introduction, in which I show and discuss different techniques with the student, after which I will compile the lesson program based on the ambition and interest. Everyone is welcome to try a lesson, young and old, whether you have experience or not.

MIT App Inventor is a visual programming environment that enables everyone to build apps for smartphones and tablets. The course for beginners does not require any previous programming experience. It starts with an introduction to the App Inventor interface. Then, after Event-Driven Programming is explained, learners will discover the available command blocks which they will have to combine to make their own apps.
