No. But familiarity with music of various styles can be of great help. DJ? "Electro" music? No ! I started taking violin lessons at the age of 7. After years of training I am currently continuing my violin studies at Utrecht Conservatory. I have also attended music theory class for 6 years, because it is very useful to have some knowledge of it when playing any instrument.
