    Discussion of a Book, a Short-Story, a Poem, or a Movie.
In this class, we analyse and evaluate works of narrative art together. This is how it works: Before each meeting we agree on a short-story or a poem to read (or listen to), or a movie to watch in preparation for the session. If it's a book, it has to be one which we've both read in the past. We can easily determine our mutual reads through apps like Goodreads or Library Thing. The aim of this course is to exercise your capacity for critical and evaluative thinking. By the end of this course, you should be able to produce (in speech or in writing) a coherent and methodical review of a book of fiction, poetry, or a film.

Greek Lessons for all levels (A1-C2) taught by a native speaker
Hello everybody! My name is Dora. I am from Thessaloniki, Greece and I live in Maastricht, Netherlands. I graduated from the Department of Philology with a specialization in Classics, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. I am an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher. With the four-month Erasmus internship as a teacher of Greek language at the University of Zaragoza, Spain, I had the opportunity to gain teaching experience and interact with people of different cultural background. It improved my communication skills and boosted my self-confidence and, also, gave me the chance to realise the importance of digital media in education. I speak Greek, English and French. All the educational material is provided by me! I am looking forward to meeting you!

(I)GCSE English Literature / IB English Literature
Having difficulties analysing poems and prose in your (I) GCSE / IB English Literature course? Looking to amp your essays up a notch and finally get that A/A* or 6/7 that you have been dreaming of? I am here to help. The first thing to remember: though analysing works of literature isn't always fun, everybody can master the techniques of how to do it. But learning takes time, which the school teacher may often lack. Indeed, it has been my own experience that English teachers often choose width over depth, and so discussions are cut short for the sake of covering all elements of the teaching programme, leaving many interesting aspects of a particular work unexplored. Or sometimes it's just the attention that wanders off as the teacher is explaining these pesky concepts of "writer's voice", "writer's tone", "meter", "rhymescheme" and so on. Let me assure you: that, too, happens even to the best of us. What I can offer you is exactly what a teacher normally does not time for: exploring a work of literature in as much detail (both analytical and technical) as it takes to push the quality of your essays up to the desired level. My approach is informed by IB / (I)GSCE Eng Lit course guidelines to make sure that the quality of your answer would be developed in accordance with what examiners want to see. Armed with a deep passion for literature on the one hand (reading and writing poems and short stories are one of my favorite things to do) and knowledge of ways of critical analysis (obtained in IB English Lit and reinforced by philosophy courses on university level) which are of tremendous importance in literary analysis as well, I will show you how to deconstruct any piece, how to place it in its cultural context, and make educated guesses about the links between cultural context and the author's choice of stylistical devices. And best of all - unlike in the classroom, the learning experience is tailored to you (based on your way of learning / remembering) and delivered in a highly interactive way! The skills described above, coupled with general essay writing tips will lend authority and style to your summative essays and exam answers, boosting your academic confidence. Ready to leave unsatisfactory essays in the past? Then contact me today!

Learn Modern Greek - Νέα Ελληνικά - Learn grammar, syntax, vocabulary, speaking and writing.
If you have always been intrigued by this unique language with a grate history, but you don't know where to start - Look no further! Hi! (Γειά!) My name is Kat. It's a shorter version of Katerina (Αικατερίνη or Κατερίνα), or Catherine as you know it in its English form. Hope I'm not scaring you off already! I am a singing teacher with special training in orthophony. I am a native Greek polyglot. I speak English at a native level thanks to my traveling family. I also speak Japanese, Danish and Swedish. As you may know, there are many versions of the Greek language, due to constant changes throughout history. Some well-known versions are Ancient Greek (and they are categorised by period, dialect, and form), Katharevousa (conceived in the late 18th century), and Modern Greek (Demotic). We call it "Νέα Ελληνικά" (Nea Elinika). Although Ancient Greek are studied in universities around the world, they are not used anymore. Many people with degrees in Ancient Greek would never be understood when speaking in modern Greece, unfortunately. With me you will be learning the alphabet, the grammar rules, and the syntax as used in modern times. Next time you visit Greece for your vacation, you will be able to speak freely and be understood. No matter what your mother tongue is, and how heavy the pronunciation you have, you will be able to bypass it and master the real sounds we use in Greek. I am not only a singing teacher. I have taught English to a group of Japanese teenagers, and helped them correct pronunciation before their studies abroad. In the past, I was also teaching art to young kids of ages 7 to 9. I have devoted my life to teaching. My method has been specifically developed to match the subject and the student. My motto is that the teacher must be the one to adjust to the student each and every time. I have been a part of the teachers network in ApprentUs for over a year. Send me a message with all your questions and we can start immediately. My plan will have you speaking Modern Greek in a month. Why learn Greek? * Because it is the root to many other languages around the world. After learning Greek vocabulary, you will start understanding the original meaning of so many words for example in English, Spanish, etc. You will learn how to find the root in every unknown word, and gain a different perspective on language learning. We Greeks learn a very complex language that keeps developing to the day, and we have great techniques to master it fast. * Rare and exotic languages have become very popular the last years. Languages like Korean and Japanese, too. Greece is probably already a place you visit often so you can actually put your learning to the test! * There are Greeks everywhere. As a Greek living abroad in Scandinavia for the past 5 years, I still cannot believe how often I meet other Greeks in the streets of Copenhagen and Malmö, where I usually stroll. Knowing Greek can come in handy if we ever decide to take over the world! * You live for the challenge. Admit it, the more difficult the language, the best it feels when you actually speak it. I will be helping along the way, through any difficulty. * Greeks can't help but fall in love with people who try to speak their language! You try it, and you'll see a huge smile on their face. You will probably earn some free shots of tsikoudia or ouzo.
