Piano lessons& music theory for beginners and intermediates / ABRSM preparations
Hi there! My name is Norica. I am a pianist and a piano teacher from Tokyo.
Just quickly to the point: My approach is holistic and systematic. It uses lots of fun exercise and nice educational materials from Japan in addition to the Internationally recognized standard books. (Don't worry, you don't have to understand Japanese!) You learn not only how to play piano but also how music works- music theory.
I know what my students are good at and not so good at right off the bat. That's why I can tailor the lesson plans to their goals and needs.
Also, if you like to take an ABRSM exam, the syllables will be tailored accordingly. So what will be tested on the day of exam are integrated into the lessons and my class/lesson offers all-round preparation for the exam.
Another important aspect of my lesson is to focus on improving cognitive skills - increasing in memory, right-hand-left-hand-coordination, sustained attention, nonverbal communication, and a feeling of independence and freedom.
I do so with unique materials from Japan and fun trainings.
Currently students from 5 to 72 years old are taking my lessons. As an educator, I am committed to the process of learning while making lessons enjoyable and constructive.
Please drop me a line if you're interested. If you have any questions about the lesson, feel free to ask.
I will be happy to answer to all your questions!
Thank you

About Me
Let me get straight to the point. It's nice to play piano. It connects you with people and feeds your soul. Piano is like your best friend who is always there for you in particular when you go through a lot in life.
At age of 4 when I started playing piano, I was a bit struggling to read sheet music and had a lot of pressure to be perfect from spartan teachers. Well, piano has only black and white keys and you get confused with which note is where, don't you?
Mistakes are inevitable and they're part of learning. So I totally understand how beginners feel like when they just begin a piano.
You will learn something new in each lesson.
My approach is fun, friendly, systematic and effective. Not like my old teachers..!

Easy communication and great understanding of my goals as a beginner. Very excited to start learning with Norica.
At the end of my first session, I was playing a song on the piano! I learned to read music, and hand placement, and played a song in the first hour! Very cool. Norica is a great teacher and listened to my needs, and was interested in the objectives I wanted to achieve by learning to play the piano.
Great introduction to piano, perfect for beginners and those who are planning to learn from zero. The method is very well structured and fun.
Norica is very friendly and has a very effective teaching method. After only 4 lessons my theory and piano skills have improved a lot. I enjoy these lessons very much!
My 9-y-o daughter loves her piano teacher. Norica knows well how to keep her interested and engaged while teaching the music theory.

Piano Lessons with two Grand Pianos. Preparations for ABRSM and Competition.
There are two grand pianos at the location in Den Haag. There will be enough distance between the student and the teacher.
For children, it is important to develop basic musical skills through Singing, Rythmique, and Ear training besides piano playing. I use one technical exercise book, the main textbook, and a theory book. Through these 3 books, students learn different aspects of music and they naturally get ready for exams and grades.
After acquiring basic skills, students study Harmony and Chord exercise too. These are useful for playing pops and jazz, and they obtain a deeper understanding of classical pieces too.
Private Piano lesson, from age 4 above. Children can start the lesson after being able to read the number from 1 to 5 and the alphabet from A to G.
Advanced students who want to prepare for competitions, auditions, ABRSM, GCSE, IB exams, or the entrance exam of the conservatory.
The concert is held annually together with students of flute, violin, and composition teachers.
For the age 1-7 years, I have group Rhythmique lessons.

Piano and Music Theory Lessons for children and adults (beginners, advanced)
Learning how to play an instrument can fall into many classroom stereotypes; Not if you strive to discover sounds and styles, if you're open to learning not only an instrument but all that is related to music and sound making!
I've taught at different institutes and private lessons for +5 years; then slowly began to put together my own method of teaching not only piano, but related subjects to help students gain a broader knowledge and be able to take next steps in their music journey even when they're finished with their music lessons. With all the experience I gathered in working with children and adults, I've composed a method of teaching subjects related to piano performance(music theory, music history, improvisation and creative music composing) alongside lessons on the instrument and piano techniques, as the student proceeds and is in need of more broad knowledge.
It doesn't matter wether the student is a pupil or an adult, if they have experience in music or not, there's always a lot to discover together in my lessons; based on the students needs and interests.
I usually start with basics of the instrument and give students a general lesson on how the instrument works. As we proceed in our lessons, we will cover techniques and more specific skills based on the interest of the student. Our lessons are very flexible regarding class material and my aim is to keep the lessons always fun and informative as well as following the bigger aim of helping the student to be confidant in their music performing and music creation.
The format of our lessons will not stay the same as we work on different pieces, different skills and subjects. There are certain repertoire we will cover but also some of the pieces the student likes to be able to play and understand.
We will also work on performing skills, I often organise mini concerts for students that like to overcome their fear of performing on stage or for others, giving them the opportunity to perform their own pieces or from classic piano repertoire.

Music Theories - Unifying two worlds: how we make music and how we understand it to make it better
What is music theory? Is it just one theory? What do we do with it? How come so many of the greatest musicians didn't know even the name of the notes?
Let's dispel the myth.
They may, in fact, have lacked the names, but "knowing" in music means something else than a dusty stockpile of information and labels. Their ears, their voice, and their hands "knew" very well...
Music theory is the way we get some order into the endless realm of possibility that music allows us. Naming and conceptualizing these possibilities is very useful in many ways. It provides us with an overarching and abstract understanding of what we have done (reflective element), and it can even open up to yet unheard sound combinations (generative element). But one point remains crucial: music theories come from music practice and come back to music practice. Theories are the most useful and loyal servants for music-making, but only empty speculations without it.
In these lessons, I will help you to understand how to navigate music theories and what to do with them. I will show you a plurality of approaches to systematizing sound relations that will serve at best the music you love to play or want to compose.
The lessons will be custom made for each student.
Whether you are a beginner who simply wants a little help to get the basics right or you are a cultivated musician fond of music theory who wants to explore advanced and complex concepts out of the box, I will provide you with ideas, materials, and exercises. I will work to adapt to your learning rhythm while keeping you challenged at the same time. You will receive regular feedback, advice, and guidance
Don't hesitate to contact me for more details!

Custom music theory: general music theory, chord theory, etc.
As a conservatory student in Belgium and the Netherlands, I intensively studied solfège, rhythm and harmony (up to pastiche composition). In addition, with my experience as an accordionist and accordion teacher, I know how to connect theory with practice. From that perspective I teach custom music theory. This can help playing an instrument enormously! I guide you as a student in your self-chosen goals, for example:
- be able to read music notes
- improve rhythmic skills
- train musical hearing
- understanding music better: understanding chords
- be able to write music according to a certain style in classical music (e.g. like Bach or Mozart)
The lessons consist of theory (summarized in a course) and exercises. So all levels and all ages are welcome - we draw up a curriculum together and go on the road together. Free trial lesson (introductory meeting).
