Music lessons in piano, cello, harpsichord, for all ages and levels.

Lessons in piano, historical and modern cello, and harpsichord, with program and repertoire, adapted to the goals and speed of each student, whether young, not so young, or adult, for a general introduction to these instruments, for preparation for high music education, as a supplementary aid for exams in music academies, or for a hobby, or for amateur group music-making, or for developing qualities as concentration, coordination, discipline, expressibility, awareness of styles and music history.
In my teaching, I try to teach the students how to teach themselves, because the best teacher for you is yourself.
Lessons can be combined (+30min.) with theory/solfege and history of music, if the student wishes.
For my private students, I organize concerts 1-2 per year.
Fluent in English and Russian and Bulgarian, intermediate in Nederlands und Deutsch.
I have been teaching for more than 15 years, privately, in Brussels, and in New York in the past, and probably more than 100 students.
I am a graduate of Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel, in baroque cello and harpsichord, but I play also modern cello and piano.

Extra information

Usually, I prefer to teach at the student's location. But for those, for whom this is not possible, I could teach in another location near Dansaert, the center of Brussels, depending on the availability of that place, but this will increase the price.

About Me

Playing musical instruments is one of the most efficient methods for the development of intelligence, discipline, concentration, sensitivity, and expressibility, especially for the young. My teaching is for those, who want to develop these qualities. For more intermediate-level students I use the repertoire they play in practice to teach analysis of music, harmony, and also a historical perspective to the works they study, recognition of styles. I guide my students to self-analyze their playing, to define difficulties, and to work out by themselves solutions - how to become with the time their own teachers.
For the better-progressing students, I organize small concerts.
Piano, harpsichord, modern cello, baroque cello, music theory (harmony).

Education

Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel, Master's degree Baroque cello, Bachelor's degree Harpsichord. Master's degree in violoncello from Bulgarian Academy of Music.

Experience / Qualifications

Teaching private piano and violoncello more than 10 years in Brussel. 1 year teaching in two music schools in New York, USA.

I have just started cello as an adult learner. Boris is an excellent teacher for me. Introducing the fundamentals with patience and adapted to my capabilities. He is clear in his instructions and is very knowledgeable about the history of the cello. I would recommend him as a teacher for novice adult learners.
Pleasant, calm and professional piano teacher. My daughter is very satisfied. She immediately felt at ease, which further fueled her love for the piano.

Unlock Your Musical Potential with a Master Piano Tutor: Lessons for All Levels and Ages (4+)
Looking for a passionate and professional piano teacher for your child or for yourself? My lessons are designed to bring out the joy of music and enhance creativity, while also gradually improving technique based on age and individual abilities. As a dedicated and experienced teacher with a Master's Degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy, I take teaching seriously and am committed to providing effective lessons tailored to each student. I offer different approaches to suit the individual needs and goals of every student. Playing an instrument should be a delightful experience and that's exactly what my lessons are all about! PRE-SCHOOL CHILDREN (3+) Are you a parent eager to introduce your little one to the wonderful world of music? My lessons are designed to be playful and engaging. Using specially adapted piano books, I'll guide your child through an exciting musical adventure, complete with stories and new songs to learn. We'll explore music through singing, movement, and rhythm, helping your child develop a deep and lasting love for music. SCHOOL-AGED CHILDREN The lessons are more than just learning songs. Children will explore a piano book filled with stories, characters, engaging music, and games. Depending on preferences we can dive into playing music with accompaniment recordings, which allows children to immerse themselves in a complete musical experience. Theory learning is included. TEENAGERS Are you looking for a piano teacher who will encourage and support your teenager's passion for music? I offer an accelerated piano book specifically designed for this age group, allowing your child to progress quickly in their piano skills. If your child already has experience in playing the piano, I build on their existing knowledge and continue to expand their skills and creativity. I understand that every student has their own goals, whether it's playing for fun or aspiring to be a professional musician. That's why I adapt my lessons to fit your child's intentions. By offering a variety of musical pieces for them to choose from, and being open to their suggestions, I believe that playing a piece they enjoy is more effective in keeping them motivated. ADULTS Are you worried that you're too old to start learning the piano? Don't be! It's never too late to pick up a new skill, and as an adult, you have unique advantages over children when it comes to learning music. You have greater focus, a better grasp of music theory, and a strong motivation to succeed. Do you have a favorite song that you've always wanted to play but thought it was too difficult? There are plenty of classical and popular melodies that have been arranged for beginners, so you can start playing them right away. I'll also recommend a piano book specifically designed for adult learners, which will help you build up your skills at a comfortable pace.

If this sounds like something you’d like to try we can have a trial lesson to see if you feel comfortable and happy with it and go from there. Just get in touch!

Julien
Student at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels offers piano lessons (jazz, classical or improvisation) for all ages and all levels
My method is based on serious and rigorous practice (while taking into account the student's ambitions) as well as learning most often by ear. This is indeed how music can be truly integrated over the long term. I would be delighted to work with serious and determined students.

Gabriele
Violin and chamber music classes for beginner/intermediate
During my training, I had the opportunity to study with famous teachers with whom I was able to discover different violin techniques and different pedagogical approaches, which allowed me to create my own methodology. If Italy gave me the passion of sharing and communication (a typical Italian characteristic), Belgium taught me to convey a message, an idea in a concrete way. My meeting with Mr Lawson also made me aware of the importance in the life of an artist to share his knowledge, and teaching is for me the best way to put this sharing into practice.

Mario

Hello to everyone! My name is María, I am a Venezuelan Cellist. All my musical education was inside the musical program "El Sistema" in Venezuela. This education was based on preparing myself as a better human being though playing cello in orchestras, chamber music and as soloist. I am current studying my Master degree at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel. In what consist my lessons? Cello classes for all levels (beginner, intermediate and advanced), it does not matter if you have never played cello before or if you are already studying, the important thing is to help you achieve the goals you want with this beautiful instrument. To have better results with practice, if it is necessary to help you with music theory, I will help you. As well, if you're looking for help in orchestral excerpts for auditions, I'm here for you! For kids, parental support is also important during some lesson, we are all a team and we need to work together to achieve the goals! Classes can be in person at your house or mine (BRUSSELS, BELGIUM) or via videocall (Skype, Zoom, etc). The schedules are planned according to the time of the student and the teacher. Looking forward to meeting you and work together! Maria.

Bastien
Solfège all levels / Musical Theory all levels admited
[ENGLISH, SEE BELOW] A music theory course for anyone who wants to start with a solid foundation in music, or for an already advanced musician who wants to go further. This course is also perfect for an academy or conservatory student who wishes to prepare for the music theory exam. Despite the fact that this is a so-called theoretical course, everything that is seen will first be worked on in a musical context and experienced by the student in order to be assimilated. The theoretical explanations will follow from it by itself. On the program (student's choice) - Ear training (knowing how to rewrite melodies with one or more voices, chords, etc.) - Note readings in one or more keys - Rhythm readings, polyrhythmic work - Encryption and recognition of agreements, - Transposition. This musical theory lesson suits to every level, from the one who wants to learn how to read music to the one who wants to know more about chords, transposition or polyrythms. This lesson is also perfect for a student who wants to prepare an examination. In despite the fact I called these lesson "Musical theory", it is firstly about understanding the music. And that can only be possible by ... doing music. So be aware that we will be singing, playing chords, clapping rhythms, ... My purpose is that the student understand by himself first, then the theory will come naturally. What we can do during a lesson (student can choose): - Ear training (Learn to catch a melody of one or several voices and write it down by ear, recognizing chords, recognizing rhythms, ...) - Rythmical work: learn to clap different rhythms in different time signatures. Also included polyrythms. - Key reading, in one or several keys. - Transposition (learn how to read a flute sheet while you're playing trumpet, ..)
