Drawing and comics lessons (Comics/Manga)I offer drawing and comics lessons for beginners. With extensive experience in drawing workshops for children, my classes offer the creation of characters, as well as their staging in a comic strip, which will allow us to learn the fundamentals together: sketches, storyboard, inking, color and story. At the end of the course, the comic strip can also be printed in a booklet so that the student has a concrete fruit of his work.
A little word about me:
My name is Romane, I am 26 years old and am a professional comic book author. I studied 5 years at the fine arts school in Angoulême, where I was able to perfect my mastery of drawing and storytelling. I have since participated in numerous comic book festivals, and have had the chance to publish several of them.
Whether you're a fan of manga, French-Belgian comics, or American comics, these are three styles that I like as much as each other, and can show you the ropes :)

KINDERGARTEN/ ELEMENTARY/ ENGLISH / ESL / TEACHER.My joy in teaching is to see my students progress both academically and non-academically as rounded people and future citizens. Being a primary/elementary school teacher means that I get to teach a range of different subjects, dig deeply into topics, and learn something new along the way. My teaching philosophy is that “a productive classroom atmosphere is created by the teacher to enable students to feel safe and to feel that their views are heard and valued”, encouraging and challenging them to develop high-level critical and analytical thinking skills.
Critical thinking is one of my strengths and high expectations for my students, as it allows them to analyze situations from different perspectives and develop innovative solutions. Problem-solving is another skill I bring to the table, enabling my students to overcome challenges and adapt to changing circumstances effectively.

Traditional and digital drawing, illustration and animation coursesThe objective of the course is to allow the participant to realize their artistic desires.
To do this, it is difficult to define a precise path: everyone has their own abilities and shortcomings, the organization of the course will be around the student. Among the different tools that we work with, we can find, among other things, anatomy, composition, perspective, color theory, the study of movement, the principles of animation...
On a more technical level, I am capable and have the necessary equipment to teach both traditional and digital drawing (the same for animation).
The courses will mainly be composed of two parts, the first of theoretical explanations, analysis of artists' works and implementation of creative processes... the second of evaluation of the student's work, with in-depth feedback and concrete processes to put in place to improve.

Private Trumpet lessons, studies of different musical stylesWith 10 years of experience teaching trumpet, I offer at-home lessons.
After having defined clear progress objectives, we will be able to set up practice with the instrument suited to your needs. Kind support and encouragement are an integral part of my teaching method.
Much less visual than for example the piano, the trumpet is learned through sensations, listening and feeling and obviously a lot of practice ;) Air, vibration, air column, air speed will become terms familiar as you progress.
For young students, awareness of the body in space, feeling the rhythm and pitch of sound will be part of the learning process using small, fun games.

As well as instrumental teaching and ensemble coaching of at all levels over the last 12 years, I’ve led numerous professional workshops, including ‘Music First’ and ‘Music Masters’ workshops in London and was an assistant on the Primary Arpeggione viola course and at the Springgrove music competition. As a member of the European String Teachers’ Association, I participated in their conferences across Europe.
I have prepared students for music exams at all levels, working with them on music theory, aural and sight reading skills, and regularly accompany students on the piano.
As a performing musician, I perform internationally as a soloist and chamber musician, recently including at the Victoria Hall in Geneva, Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg and Philharmonie in Berlin. I’m a Tillett Trust and Villa Musica artist, winner of the Małopolska competition, Barbirolli Prize at the Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition and Len Lickorish Memorial Prize at the Royal Overseas League International Strings Competition.
I hold a masters degree with first class honours from the class of Tabea Zimmermann at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin, and Bachelors with the same distinction from the Royal Academy of Music in London.

Toby is an outstanding instructor and works with children very naturally. My 11 year old son has been taking lessons with Toby for over two months and is eager for each lesson. Toby is extremely talented, but beyond that, he engages my son deeply with the music itself, fundamental techniques, music theory, and even the interpretation of the music. Toby is kind, encouraging, and works with students at a level that is appropriate. He has allowed my son to chose music that if fun and interesting to practice, even though the pieces are challenging. In fact, I often sit in to listen to the lessons, as they are so good. My son has had a couple of lessons with Toby while company has been over, and everyone has commented on how amazing Toby is as an instructor. I can not recommend Toby enough and hope to continue lessons with him for a long time.

Toby is really a great teacher who teaches the pieces well and brings out more of the feeling in the playing. We particularly liked that. Good technique is one thing, but feeling the music is such an important element in music and learning a piece of music. He also teaches theory very well!

Qualified Primary Teacher KS1 KS2 all subjects phonicsMy Psychology degree and 9 years of experience working with children with Neuro-divergence and additional educational needs prior to teaching have significantly shaped my approach to teaching.
I prioritise relationship building and trust with students and their caregivers.
I am patient, kind, and incredibly encouraging but have high expectations. I work with students for them to also gain high expectations in themselves. This may happen in the first few sessions or may take a longer period of time depending on the student.
I help students gain high expectations for themselves by initially giving tasks where they are guaranteed success, then celebrating and reflecting on this success and how they were able to use the skills taught and their effort to complete the task. This builds a persons confidence and significantly increases the likelihood of attempting more difficult tasks. This is heavily proven by research (and seen in my classroom daily) known as the “theory of self efficacy” and the “theory of planned behaviour”.
If a person does not believe a task is within their capability, they are incredibly unlikely to even attempt it (No matter how much we believe they can do it).
It is my job to SHOW students they can do it by designing tasks and lessons in a way that they feel challenged finish with pride in their achievements.
When teaching new skills I will show them first, then we will complete a task together, then they will apply the skills independently. I will be constantly assessing as they work independently and provide support where necessary. The ultimate goal is to phase back my support until they are using the taught skills correctly, consistently, confidently and independently.
Lessons will vary depending on students needs. If caregivers want to spend a percentage of the lesson to discuss, that will be agreed upon. If there are specific targets you want me to cover then we can dedicate time for you to tell me these expectations. If you would prefer me to assess your student and gage where the gaps are and plan accordingly, that is also ok.
I would suggest an initial session to meet, and discuss goals.
Some classes you may benefit from:
-SATs Prep
-Phonics
-Reading (comprehension, vocabulary, inferencing, predictions, explaining, retrieval, sequencing, summarising, making links, authors intent)
-Spelling
-Grammar (or Spelling and grammar combined)
-Maths
-Maths (arithmetic)
-Maths (Reasoning and Problem solving)
-Target specific - has your teacher said there are targets you need to work on in various subjects?
-Science
-History
-Geography
-Psychology (GCSE, A Level)
Is your child in secondary school but needs support in the foundation subjects such as reading, writing or maths?
Reading and writing is an essential skills in secondary school for every subject. I can support your child to close the gap so they can access all subjects with their peers. Having worked in secondary schools before, I have seen how much students are required to read and write in all lessons, but there will not be opportunities to learn these fundamental skills at school.
I welcome students of all ages (including adults) from all backgrounds and of all abilities.
I look forward to meeting you soon and celebrating the amazing progress ahead!
